Boost issue

Featured Replies

Right been noticing and slight issue on full boost basically wen I floor it the car boosts but it's fluctates pritty badly tbh.

Car tends to go from 18 psi down to near 10 then back up then back down it's like on/off throttle if you get me.

I have a atmospheric dump valve which I know ain't good but anyway I have a feeling that is what's causing the problem as if it's not holding the boost?

Am I right or could this be something else guys :-)

As far as I can see, from posts on here - these cars DO NOT like running atmospheric dump valves. It buggers up the ECU and confuses it's sensors terribly as far as I know.

I might suggest fitting a re-circ valve as a first step to see if that brings any change?

Pop your stock DV back on and see if it's the same. But big surges can be that your turbo shaft has broken. But it would normally drop way below 10 then go back up high as pressure acts on the shaft forcing the bits back to together and letting it spin again- that would be the worst possible case scenario though. SOmetimes it's as simple as a vac leak on the actuator or an iffy n75 causing it to surge but pop that stock DV back on, give it a run first to rion that out

VAG 1.8T's do not like BOV's.

Yes yes I know they don't but just wanted to know could it be something else or does it sound like the bov is causing all the fuss :-)

Only takes 5 mins to swap the stock valve back in to iron that out as the cause
