Issue connecting Nexus 5 to OEM bluetooth...

Featured Replies

I have a 2007 Octavia Mk2 pre-FL and have retro-fitted Columbus and bluetooth. The bluetooth module is an old one (1Z0-035-729B...which is the latest one that will work with the Maxidot in my car) but it worked a treat with my ancient Sony Ericsson - full phone book access, call lists, etc. However, I've just upgraded my phone to a Nexus 5 and everything is not quite as rosy; when I initially paired it with the bluetooth, it all seemed to go swimmingly and in the Maxidot it said it was importing phone book contacts, etc. However, when the phone is paired, if I press "Phone" on the Columbus it just says "No user connected" and I can't access the phone book. Strangely, I can access the phone book if I go into the Phone menu on the Maxidot (which, incidentally, is a real pain in the butt and not easy to navigate!). So I can make calls using Maxidot and make phone calls using the handset itself and it operates fine over bluetooth - same with receiving calls.

I tried my g/f's iPhone 5 and that seems to pair up no problem (full phone book access, etc) so I suspect it's something to do with Android. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Any potential solutions? Or is it basically a case of upgrading the bluetooth module (which I believe will mean losing anything phone related on the Maxidot)?

See your other thread. For some reason those older metal boxes you have fetch a lot on eBay, or at least are advertised for a lot! and it might not cost too much to sell it and upgrade to a fis link and a newer module...

Hello stranger :)

Can't help directly I'm afraid, as I have the later BT module so I don't see anything via Maxidot. I have a Nexus4 and just use everything via the Bolero.

I suspect you're stuck, between compatibility of the phone and that module, and the fact you can't use the Maxidot menu for later modules. But on balance, I'd upgrade the BT module. As said, you should be able to sell your current one quite easily as people are still looking for them.

Cheers,

Just checked on eBay and you're not wrong! Never thought it would be an investment when I bought it

How do fella :-) Not seen you wandering to the sandwich shop lately...! ;-)

When you came to setup your BT module, did it cause a prob that nothing was shown on Maxidot?

Tempted by the upgrade...although it means wading into the minefield of which version to get! :-S Which model number have you got? Presumably I'll be able to leave all the wiring in place from this one and just plug in a newer module?

I have the 730D module, so half-way between yours and the latest ones really!

Nope it's never bothered me about Maxidot. That was only ever designed in the original versions, because the headunits at the time didn't support this level of phone communication. So it had to be on the Maxidot or nothing :)

As I say, I just goto the Phone section on the Bolero and do everything from there. Much the same as the Columbus works, but you get a bigger screen :D

Test your Nexus5 out in mine, if that would help.

OK...wasn't sure if there was some kind of setup/config that had to be done via the Maxidot

Yes would be good to try it out some time on yours if that's OK, thanks...peace of mind is a wonderful thing ;)

No probs. Will check I've still got your number, and when I've next got a carpark space you can pop over :)

Nothing needs doing via Maxidot at all, now that the headunits are capable of talking directly to the BT module. It'll become clear when you see it

Just in case anyone's interested, I got a 7P6035730J from eBay and it works fine - address book is all present and correct, plus I now have Bluetooth streaming audio :D

Other than that, pretty much identical to the 729B - only there's no "bing-bong" when it connects and disconnects (actually it's "bong-bing" when it disconnects, but you get the picture! ;)) but I can live without that.

Thx for the assistance Wardy...got there in the end ;)

Glad you're sorted - sounds like a perfect result :D

How much did you sell the old module for?  :$$$:

I haven't yet! Hopefully rectify that before long though...
