Occasional Power Steering Issue / Light flickering - vRS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

The trusty vRS which is now on 130,000 miles has developed the above symptoms.

- When starting from cold ... no power steering for approx. 30 seconds - then it is fine for the rest of the day until the next morning.

- When driving occasionally the dashboard needles flicker... very random.

Now I've read the forum guides, searched for information and got a few suggestions but no real answer... it could be:

- Battery

- Power steering pump

- Steering angle sensor

What would you suggest I start with first?

I have full VCDS for diagnosis work and know my way round a car.

Any suggestions appreciated :)

Aux drivebelt tension, then VCDS check for the angle sensor.

Check the load sensor wire (I think) underneith the alternator hasnt frayed/snapped.

Also check your earth cable from the battery to the inner wheel arch.

Funny that the belt is noisy on start up... I will replace that first and checked VCDS for angle sensor.

Isn't the aux drivebelt tension on these cars automatic with the belt tensioner roller?

Fluid level?

Load sensor wire snapped?

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem. Garage stated a possible fault in the wiring loom (Expensive). an old mechanic mate said check the battery. I did and it was the battery that was on its way out. I replaced the battery with a heavier duty one and the problem has not returned.

I hope this helps

All the best

Graham

Let me know when you have sorted the problem as mine does the exact same , also my interior light flickers randomly when I'm driving , I have replaced the battery but still getting the same symptoms

Hi,

I'd check that the bulb is not loose in the holder, good luck.

All the best

Graham
