Rear brakes binding

Featured Replies

Are skoda fabia's like most VW's and are common for the rear sliders to seize up? or could the handbrake mechanism be jamming?

Also the handbrake is pretty lifeless on the first 4-5 clicks.

doh, just found the useful guides, ordered up some caliper springs.

:giggle: ............

Also the rubber seals between the piston & the caliper housing go hard with age which stops the piston fully retracting, and the rubber skirt between the caliper body & the handbrake lever arm creates a rust zone which needs scraping out from behind the skirt. I think I have put my info in the main "my handbrake is seized thread".............. B)

Also check your handbrake cables - I have the famous VW non-retracting handbrake mechanism (solved temporarily with springs), but also had a broken cable guide and thus corroded cable which would not move.

Stripped my near side rear brake today due to it binding.

Found that the outer pad was seized in the caliper carrier and the friction material was breaking up.

Cleaned it all up and replaced pads.

Fingers crossed it cures it

I look on the above as a "must do" every 12 months - both front and back as it can avoid you ever having brake seizing problems.

I agree.

When I first started in the trade we did this to pads/shoes on every major service - 12 months/12,000 miles.

Brakes are no different now?
