brake pads and discs.

Featured Replies

hi there,

my fabia vrs is going to need new disc and pads shortly, what are the best to go with?

ive been looking at the brembo drilled and grooved discs with there pads at £150 for a set

or i can get unipart ones for a set at around £90

are these any good? are there any better manufacturers out there?

not sure if this is the correct place to put this.

thanks i advance

Drilled grooved discs do almost nothing for braking power and are mainly for cooling and looks - good for hard track use although they act as cheese graters for your pads. Best off getting OEM or similar. I think Pagid are the brand most OEM companies use?

OEM octy VRS 312 discs and pads and good second hand calipers is the way to go

Can't justify big brakes, as I have no plans on going big power, just want some new discs and pads for now

Hi Callum

You might want to have a look here. I got good service from them for Octavia disks and pads (Mintex) and they do the various drilled/grooved options. I prefer grooved only because, as said above, they keep the pads cleaner. Price seems to be between your current two options, but please check whether I've picked the right car!

Pagid from ECP, no problems when I have used them

Assuming your talking about front discs and pads??

Try this ?? it's where I source mine sometimes.

Check they are 288mm discs of course.

I smear the faintest trace of copper-grease on retaining bolts, (new or old) before re-fitting.

This avoids cross threading and corrosion taking place.

Word of warning on Skoda type front caliper retaining bolts. i had one of mine strip last year. Local place I used said they see a lot of VAG ,and other similar types strip. So when removing /replacing the retaining bolts -TAKE CARE.

Pagid from ECP, no problems when I have used them

+1

Just done my son's Polo - pretty sure discs and pads came in a tad under £50 (1L - not a VRS).

In my very limited experience, grooved discs can be quite noisy.

I like ATE-- think they are "Powerdisc"  if they come in your size +any decent make of pad

Have you looked at EBC?  Their OEM replacement disks and pads are usually pretty good.
