Hey guys I'm from chesterfield, I am getting my key cut tomorrow but need it coding to work with car, anyone competent able to help me out as I don't want to pay full price for them to head butt the keyboard and charge me a fortune.

There's a members map on the forum, showing people who have VCDS, there may be someone near is (I live in the area)

Failing that, ring Chesterfield Vw Specialist on Storforth Lane, Chesterfield, and speak to Alex or Mike. Top, top guys who should be able to sort you out (they're the only people we trust with SWMBO's vRS.

Awesome. Thanks for the help mate I just had the key cut from w g pollard on derby road £5 and very friendly I recommend them too! I shall give them a ring now. And for anyone else with this problem skoda dealers wanted £176 for a new key

Do you want the key coded to the immobiliser?. If you want to achieve this, then you'll need a dealer visit unless you have the 4 digit SKC for your car (usually on a plastic tag that came with the car when new). If you do not have this then the key cannot be coded to the immobiliser by VCDS.

Actionman39 does a service supplying, cutting and coding keys for £80 but would only be worth it if he is travelling this way as there is a charge for travel expenses

The dealer doesn't have direct access to the code IIRC, they plug their computer into the car which then talks to HQ and its all sorted over the Internet. You would need someone with VAG tacho to extract the SKC from the cluster instead.

Hi trundle, I looked and vag tacho from what I saw would only cover upto 2004 whereas mine is 2006 so may not be an option.

It does work with newer cars, but i think a lot of copies available on the internet are dodgy.  There are a few people on here who have proper copies though.

bit odd, i was having a PM convo about a week ago with someone with username cal_mul from chesterfield regarding coding some a new key

just to add, you don't have to go to the dealers. Other people do have equipment to read SKC. I'm going to be passing Chesterfield on M1 on Saturday 15th Feb as i'm heading to Leicester & few other places doing keys
