I'm a time served Marine Engineer with an HND in Marine Engineering and Shipboard Management and hold the Certificate of 1st Engineer, following that I shifted careers towards the digital side of stuff and also have a degree in Multimedia Design and Digital Animation from Cumbira Institute of the Arts which is now part of the University of Cumbria and I also hold an honorary degree in wireless communication and digital networking awarded by Sheikh Zayed University in Abu Dhabi frm my time designing the GPRS network during my time as Tech Manager at Nokia Middle East.

 

Thus I go by the name Nerd...yourself?

That's quite an impressive background mate. Fair play 

I moved out of the main networking side of things quite a while back. The GPRS network we installed was to function not only as the main mobile data backbone for the UAE but also as it's military fallback data control system so was an interesting an old job with some very strange meetings

 

Now the company I own runs Online Marketing for companies from simple stuff like their SEO, social media, ex-commerce and site design right upto more integrated things like site metrics for larger companies- might sound odd but the technology involved in site metrics is ridiculous and being to digest and spit out readable figures with suggested plans of action is becoming quite a big thing. It suits me down to the ground as I'm lazy, I can work from anywhere with a data connection so keeps me lazy and in modifying money. I also have Modified Motors as something of a side project to help out the modified car scene and try and increase the profile of the scene in general and stop some of the age old stereotypes rearing their heads. WIth that there's vinyl (both b2b and b2c) and dedicated things for companies connected to the scene. It's just a side project though and designed to help the scene and not make money.

 

I also do consulting work for the Marine sector but mainly search procurement now- thats finding the stuff they can't find or spec correctly and getting it to them to complete projects or deliver quotes

Lucky- my CV is like damned war and peace lol. On top of that I also spent 2 years working in South Africa as a Field Guide or Ranger but had to come back because of health reasons but that's where my time kicking the tits of 4x4s in the bush comes from. That's why I'm plain old lazy now- worked my ass off since I was 16 (well, 13 really) and now like doing sweet FA

Yeah it's a strange old game I work currently for tsystems but just about to move to look after credit Suisse

The guy that shares the unit his old man was top dog at Nokia systems I get to meet all sorts of data ric and server based engineers and yes times are changing and data and comms systems become insane but it's the fun part

Have to say when you come down the rules are car talk only lol

With me data and power and my side man build and design and you it will be a boring convo about design build and fibre

I think a mate of mine works as credit suisse, guy called Andrew Malpass- it's pretty good but no idea what he's doing there now but he was in the data side of things doing some jiggery pokery somewhere.

 

Nokia is or was HUGE, even the Middle East office in Jebel Lai had more staff out of the office than i the office. I met a guy a few years back who worked there at the exact same time I did and we never met- he now lives about 15 minute drive from me.

 

RIght now I've got eh the 2 nerds- the mk1 which is a DS3 THP155 I have running at 228bhp on the stock turbo for now, it'll do 0-60 in 5.8 and tops out around 154mph but handles like a go kart on steroids (needs a big turbo conversion and new LSD on right now)- he's getting turned into rallyX car when the the right time comes about (they're cracking cars and you seriously need to drive one) and the mk2 is the Octy. Had some other stuff I let go as I was just being an idiot and not actually working on them.

Probs see you down there if I ever pull my finger out and figure out what meets we;re going to, also need to organise a show for MM this year at some point and just do not have the damned time.

 

If you;ve got the skills and the tickets just go pirate and work for the highest bidder every time- get some project management certs and go work on that H2 train line - big money- 5-6k a week sort of money! And yes, theres a huge data network to go with it lol

I'm up in the frozen wastes of the North East. I just popped up a thread about the MM galleries- same applies to you as a company, there's a scene professionals bit there so if there's any projects you've worked on you want to show off follow the instructions in that thread- it always drums up business for firms

It comes and goes mate... car is better if I roll the boost on as a pose to WOT if that makes sense

Mine's the same mate, if i put the foot down to the floor, it chokes and it's not instant like you would expect. It works if you slowly accelerate, with a slight hesitation to boost though. Is that what ya mean aye?
