Manifolds cracked! Need one ASAP, what's best?

Featured Replies

In very urgent need of a manifold for the VRS, what fits? For standard turbo? The car is used daily so need it on the road ASAP.

What do people think? Buy a new OEM or second hand OEM? Uprate?

Any help and advice would be great from the gurus on here.

If anyone has a OEM one within 50-70ish miles of Leeds I'm on it.

Sorry mods it's a cry for help and a wanted but more of a cry for help so I hope you done mind?;-)

Is it definitely the manifold that's cracked? I had the normal farting/blowing noise from my vRS which I thought was a cracked manifold, but a £4 gasket from a dealer and a bit of time with the spanners and it was beautifully quiet again.

I do have a spare standard manifold knocking around (came with the car and bought by the previous owner), which I was going to get modified by my friends at Scholar Engines in Suffolk. However, it has the *tiniest* hairline crack on turbo face. It'd been checked over by many people and was sold as a crack-free manifold as well, so chances are that it'll be fine. But since I'm wanting to have it worked on, I'm not taking the chance on it and bought a brand new one to have done instead.

If it is of any use, let me know. I do have some pictures of the crack somewhere, but it is really difficult to try and take a picture of it.

Good luck!

As far as I know it's cracked as when I had the turbo replaced it had a crack and it was braised/welded up. It started making a bit of noise in December and it's just got worse until it let go yesterday.

How much was the brand new one? Did you get it from the dealers? If it's not mental money I will get a brand new one.

Thanks for the offer, I'll have a think about it.

A new OEM manifold is part number 06A 253 033 AL. I didn't get mine from a dealer thankfully; it was second hand but unused. I'd hate to think how much a new one at RRP would set you back, probably a good few hundred quid!

There's quite a few used manifolds on eBay but you never know what you are going to get until it arrives. I'd be gutted if I spent good money on a used one and it arrived cracked. At least if you bought one from another paid up Briskoda member, there is a good chance that the seller is genuine and will look after you.

I understand what your saying buddy.

Are they the same on the normal 1.8t in the mk4 golf? Or are they different with them having a Ko3s?

I can "probably" have a manifold ready to ship to you on Wednesday, but I won't know until Tuesday has been and gone as to how successful the day has been. :)

You've not seen how high the car is in the air yet!   ;)

I really think we need a crane. :(

can you not hire one? shouldnt cost any more than 40 quid (not round here anyway),, you will make that back and more just selling the turbo

Have asked local friendly garage if they can loan me one for the day

i would have brought mine but the leg pins are missing so its a bit like a chocolate tea pot at the mo lol

Nice one, is it crack free? If so let me know how much it's going to cost me.

Hi - Has come from a fully working engine, but I've now got the engine out, well the member above you did most of the work!  I've had to put it under cover.

The last manifold I sold for £40 including UK postage, which I am happy to match again.  Just not sure when the next dry period is I can attack the engine once more.....
