03 1.9 tdi revving on start up

Featured Replies

sometimes when I start the car, being from a cold or warm start, the engine rev's to around 2.5k without any contact with the pedal

this only happens intermittently and brings up no warning lights at any point?

all very confused by this as it does not happen everytime :/

anyone know of this issue? or any quick fixes/ diagnosis?

Cheers, Josh

Maybe worth disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes, switch everything off, re connect and let idle for 30 minutes to reset the ECU.

Mine did this until a little while ago. Basically I changed the temp sensor, reservoir bottle, thermostat and flushed and replaced the coolant.

I did this because I had the coolant light flashing up but once I had replaced all those parts I no longer have the engine revving up on me.

It may not cure yours but it seems to have worked for me.

Could also be the accelerator pedal.

Its often an easy fix to just remove and clean up the contacts on it.

Cheers for the replies!

I'll try resetting the ECU when I get back from uni tomorrow!

If not the accelerator pedal contacts can have a clean, thinking of it this may well be the case as it can sometimes (again intermittently) idle about 200 revs over what I'd say was normal for the car!

Failing these, I'll give the temp sensor/thermostat a change, probably wouldn't mind doing it for peace of mind anyway

Thanks again! Josh

Faulty coolant temp sensor on my old mkI Octavia caused this problem, but the CTS on the Octavia is different to the Fabia.
