Octavia vRS 2004

Featured Replies

Well I thought I'd be keeping it longer than this (hence why I've spent a fortune on it to get it right), but I've been offered a free car (Toyota Rav-4) and I've missed having a 4x4, so my beloved vRS has gotta go.  I've had loads of cars over the years but this has been one of my favourites and I'll be truly sad to see it go.  If you want a fast, comfortable, surprisingly economical (I've had 40mpg on a run) family car with a truly huge boot, then you've come to the right place

It's a 2004 04 plate vRS 1.8T in silver, 180bhp 1.8T 20 valve four cylinder petrol engine (designed by Audi).  Not chipped or modified, standard engine, brakes and suspension.  I looked at loads before buying this one, it had higher mileage than some of the others but it had clearly been looked after and also had the benefits of the rare factory options of rear parking sensors and electric sunroof (both fully working).  I also had cruise control retrofitted (using genuine VW group parts, fitted by a VW specialist).  It has the usual vRS standard fitments of cassette player with CD changer (both work fine), climate control (fully working), remote central locking (fully working) and electric windows all round with "one touch" control of the front windows by the driver and comfort closure/opening by the doorlock (all fully working).  Black leather "V" embossed trim with white centre panels, door panel trim and carpet.

I bought it in August from a VW specialist with 114,000 miles on, it's now got about 116,500 on (as you can see, I've hardly used it).  It's basically been used for a once a week run of about sixty miles, the turbo is not used until I've warmed the engine and likewise at the end of the journey I've let the car tick-over for a couple of minutes to ensure that the turbo is no longer spinning (as turning the engine off when the turbo is still spinning can lead to premature turbo bearing wear).  I'm the third owner.

Since I bought it I have had the cambelt and water pump replaced, the big 120,000 mile service done at a VW specialist owned by a Skoda trained mechanic, new discs and pads both front and rear (front ones are Mintex), new genuine Skoda alloy wheel centres, a new rear wiper motor, new CV joint, new Bosch front wipers, the pollen filter changed and air conditioning re-gassed (it blows lovely and cold and demists the car easily), the gear linkage reset, a new set of Osram Nightbreaker Plus headlamp bulbs fitted (far superior to the standard bulbs), a new Skoda rear boot net, a section of wiring repaired in the boot so the boot light now works (that's how fussy I am with my cars - I wouldn't put up with a faulty boot light so I had it repaired!)  All this is the kind of work that you'll have to do if you buy a vRS; in the case of mine it's already been done for you.

It comes with a set of genuine Skoda black plastic door sill protectors that I haven't had time to fit yet (I'll try to get them fitted in the next couple of days) and a brand new genuine Skoda touch up pen set, along with a spare Bosch driver's side windscreen wiper.  Tyres have at least 4 mm of tread but are a budget brand (all are the same brand though).  Not much tread on the spare.  MOT is due 15 July 2014.  2 genuine remote keys (one with a Skoda badge, the other with a vRS badge as the Skoda badge was worn) along with two Skoda main dealer keyrings.  One of the keys also has a removable silver plastic case to protect it.  Standard 17" alloys 3 of which are in really good condition, 1 has some kerb damage but nothing major, still in good condition.  Original vRS logoed mats; driver's side has a hole in it but I've hidden it with a piece of old mat underneath so it's not noticeable.  The boot's rear right netted storage area's net is broken; I've been looking for another net to replace it but haven't found one yet.  However the boot does have the large cargo net which is often missing on these.  Auto-locking enabled by VAG-COM (locks after setting off when you hit 1700rpm and unlocks when you either unlock via the door master switch or turn the ignition off).  Also comes with a VAG-COM diagnostic printout.

The interior is in really good condition, I've recently cleaned and treated the leather.  The carpet is surprisingly clean for a white carpet!  Externally it's in really good condition, there is a small crease / dent to the top of the O/S/F wing, a small dent next to the rear numberplate (would cost about £50 to repair) and some touched up stonechips to the front.  I'll get some more photos on this week.

It has an A4 folder full of receipts from myself and the previous owner and every MOT from new apart from one.  Loads of old tax discs too.  It comes with six months tax and six months MOT test.

All in, I reckon this car stands me at nearly three and a half grand; six months down the line you could own this car for £1700.  I really don't think that you'll find a better one for the money (in fact you'd probably have to pay nearly double my asking price to better it), but don't just take my word for it, go and see some of the abused ones out there and then come and see mine.  You won't be disappointed.  Personal message me for details.  Viewing anytime as I'm self-employed.  Thanks for reading.

Thanks for your interest.  I've got someone coming up to look at it on Wednesday, so he's got first refusal.  If it's not for him, I'll bung the extra photos on etc.  I'll post on here Wednesday to let any potential buyers know either way.

Sorry folks, it's sold.  First person who saw it bought it.  Thank you for your interest though and I hope that you find one.
