Poor Octy vRS MPG?!

Featured Replies

Just been down to Cornwall for a weeks hols, 2 adults, 2 teenagers, 2 bikes on the roof, 2 bikes on a high rise carrier on the back, boot full of bags and fishing gear. 260 miles each way, not pushing it particularly, never more than 80 on the motorways. What was the mpg?

A pretty poor 25mpg both ways! the bikes made a hell of a difference. I pulled out on a motorway style hill at 75 in 5th and floored it to overtake, and bu**er all happened, as bad as being back in my old 1.8 Mondeo

I know I get approx 26mpg when playing on the local twisty's, but I thought 25 was pretty poor, anyone had anything worse?

That doesn't surprise me.

It was quite heavily loaded and bikes all over it would mean a lot of drag.

The lack of overtaking power susprises me a bit though

I'd say 25 is about right? My boss' Saab rarely gets that as standard with just ME in it.

As a comparison the only time I've done (marginally) worse in my TDI is blatting around Bruntingthorpe. ;) Think I averaged about 23mpg that day.

Had mine for six weeks now and overall from new is 25.4mpg, had nothing loaded particularly, but have been blasting the twisty's quite a lot!!! :drive:

I've just got back in from fleetwood (nr blackpool) which was a 280 mile trip. My Octy vrs was fully laden with 2 adults + 3 kids, boot full of bags/toys etc. I made 32.5 mpg avg over each 140 mile trip at over 80mph. I didn't have a bike rack attached though!

Its the bike rack that makes the difference

Just got back about 5 mins ago from Cornwall.

Just checked my trip computer 268 miles, 3hours 53mins so you can see I wasn't hanging around, 36.0mpg , fully loaded car with two children in the back. I am more than happy with that out of my Octy vRS.

I guess the bike rack really does make a big difference.

Carlos.
