Gear oil change - air tool required?

Featured Replies

Hi

Anyone changed the gear oil in a 6 speed Octy VRS CR 2010?

Dealer recons you need a special tool to put the oil in with air pressure.

I have never heard of this on any car yet.

Anyone done it already???

I have changed mine, and you don't need anything air powered.

A funnel and a length of hose is all you need, threaded down from the bonnet down to the gearbox. Mind you I was using a ramp which made it a hell of a lot easier.

I checked the location of the drain and fill plugs when I serviced it last week and it looked esay enough to get into.

I kinda thought he was talking bull as I have never had a problem changing gear oil in anything yet.

Oh well, looks like I will go elsewhere for my timing belt and water pump as I dont like people telling me rubbish.

Just spoke to another dealer. The price quoted for the correct oil for the 6 speed box (G052512A2) was just over half the price quoted at the other dealer and there was no mention of requiring a special air tool to put it in.

How much was the gearbox oil from the dealers? i want to change mine on my 2008 TFSI vrs,i changed mine on my mk1 vrs & that was straight foward,i had a quick look when i serviced it & could see a drain plug & a level/top up plug so im guessing its the same job on my mk2,how much oil did you buy & what is the part number? I think the DSG boxes require special tools & procedures to replace the oil, maybe the dealer thought you had a DSG box.

It was £8.40 per litre + vat. The other dealer started at £9.72 but then channged to £14.99.

I think it needs 2.2 litres or so . I ordered 3 litres.

If you give the dealer the VIN number (on the bottom of your windscreen), he will tell you what oil is required.

Part number : (G052512A2) is for 6 speed manual boxes.

On my old 2005 (6 speed) Fabia VRS MK1 see below..

Just squeeze oil out of bottle into level/ fill hole until oil runs out, on level ground, (no other apparatus required)
