Rear door locks sticking

Featured Replies

Hi there, my rear central locking keeps on sticking - sometimes in the lock position, and sometimes in the open. Any ideas on what it maybe and how to fix please?

Many thanks

Most likely cause is corrosion of the plug and socket connections in the wiring due to water and there are many threads and "how to fix it" guides on here.

HOWEVER, I had the same intermittent operation on one of my rear doors. Does yours sometimes unlock on the 2nd or 3rd try? Mine did until it became locked for most of the time.

Mine has been fixed now for nearly two years. All I did one was 1) take off the door trim (called door card in some threads) and then liberally sprayed an aerosol oil around the lock motor and other moving parts associated with the motor inside the door. Then 2) did the same around the lock at the door edge, making sure the nozzle of the aerosol can went in through gaps in the locking catch at the door edge.

I then operated the lock a few times and problem fixed.

The amount of oil I used was quite prodigious so I wiped everything down before replacing the door trim and handle.

Might be worth trying 2) above first if the door can be opened.

The drivers rear lock on my old Octy used to stick from time to time. I soaked it with WD40 from the outside and it kept working for another couple of years until I sold it. I did buy a new lock mechanism, but never needed to fit it. If yours works intermittently, get it lubricated now before it sticks in the locked position and won't open.
