Ahhh which wax?

Featured Replies

To much choice out there to decide and lots of ideas on here. I have done a search and found that Collinite 476 and 845 have good reviews. Also Poorboys Nattys paste is another option. The one I currently have is Dodo Juice Banana Armour. I need something that is going to last at least a month or two. I might have missed of other waxs but still suggest them

If you are sure its a wax and not sealer you want and if longevity is most important not wet gloss look then you could do much worse than Collinite 845. I use it and get 3 to 6 months depending on how good my prep is. Im sure there are better but you will pay more money.

I have already got Poorboys EX just after a wax to go on top

ChrisRS posted a review a few months ago which tested quite a few using one of those big lorry horse box things over 6 months so he should be able to help. I use AG high dev wax came out very well, but AG don't recommend you use a sealer with it so that probably won't fit your needs. I use a QD after most waskes and its still beading after 6 months. Good luck.

I've just recently used collinite 845 which had great results, maybe get that and some sonax BSD over the top.

Or as others have said go for a sealant.

Or why not go For best of both worlds and try dodo juice supernatural hybrid.

I'm picking some up from a forum member at the weekend really looking forward to trying it.

Wax wise you cant beat colinte 476s for ease of use and durability. I find it doesnt give the best wet look effect

If your looking for a more allround wax britemax vantage is very good as is 50/50 from Chemical guys... The dodo range you cant go wrong with any of them and choosing one is just personally preference

Thanks for all your help so far

Dodo Banana Armour should give way more than 1 month's protection, by all accounts a good wax.  Are you not finding this to be the case?

I haven't used it yet Sparkly. I used it on the old car but as the paintwork wasnt in A1 condition it just normally got SRP on it

Ok well before investing in more wax I would say give the Dodo a chance to fly ;)  It's one of their hard waxes and by all accounts, reviews suggest it will give decent durability.

PS, I just bought myself some Banana Armour, Red Mist Tropical and Light Fantastic from ISHINECARCARE.  So when you get chance to give it a go, we can compare notes.

When I was valeting for a garage it was easier to do the car on a Saturday afternoon once I'd finished. Then once every few months a full scrub inside and once a year a full machine polish

I have just used some Megs QD on the bonnet and a thin layer of Dodo left to cure for 15 mins. Will see how it performs

You mean Dodo then Megs QD right?

Also photos, or it never happened :D

I used the QD to get the top layer of muck off after a bit of water. Then the Dodo on top. No photos as I did it whilst I was getting sorted for work.

Might have concerns that the QD will leave some of it's own protection behind and not a clean panel is all, not letting the wax make a full bond so perhaps not a fair test on durability.

Was my thinking :)

How was the wax for looks?

Have your own made.

I have 2 waxes now that have been made for me. (made by companies for me, not made by me, sorry for any confusion caused)

A generic wax (see other thread on new detailing products (to me)) and one that took over 4 months to get right.

Wow a special one off. Bet they aint cheap

Having a generic wax made (by that I mean its a wax that has been proven to work, but you choose the colour, smell) is cheap for having something that's just yours.

Having a wax made just to your spec takes time and alot of samples. Thats the bit that costs money.
