VCDS coding for Columbus without maxi dot

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Either I misunderstood what Ive read or I wasnt able to search properly what I was looking.

Im about to get a Columbus to replace my Stream, in a few days, and I would like to know if I will have

to code it with VCDS...

I own a 2007 Octavia Limo without maxi dot  and heres where I get confused, since Im not sure if only

the cars with maxi dot need recoding through VCDS or if my own, even without maxi dot, will I also

need it.

I mean, cars with maxi dot need it to display some features on control panel, but why should I also

need it?

Is it to display things like A/C and parking sensors on columbus screen?

Thanks a lot for any help.

I have a 2007 and fitted a new CAN gateway to avoid battery drain. These newer gateways have an 'installation list'. (If your car is early 2007 you'll need either a newer gateway or modified firmware to avoid battery drain - search this forum for more info.)

Go to 19 - CAN gateway and tick 'Navigation'. Can't remember what number it is.

That's all you need to do.

It may be that you don't need to do anything, but to do it properly I'd find someone with VCDS to put the right tick in place.

the one I bought comes with that software.

yes thats what Ive read... 19/CAN Gateway - 37/Navigation and then untick "Use BAP" somewhere, I was just wondering if that applied to cars without maxi dot, so thanks for your fast response.

By the way, if that does something, what is it?! does it enable A/C and parking sensors on columbus screen?

It basically tells the car that a navigation device is fitted (Columbus) and that it has sat nav.

You won't get the sensors or climate controls on the screen without updating parking controller, some wiring and the climate panel.  See

Without maxidot, you also won't get the visual navigation instructions on the dash display.

Adam

im sad to know that but thanks for the heads up thought  ;)

Just to add to Adam's comments, you won't have them unless you upgrade controllers.

They are possible (search on this forum) but only you can decide if they are worth the cost & time & effort.

yes i realise that now, but i dont think ill do anything about it, it will just stay without those on screen. A/C doesnt bother me at all, only parking sensors whould be of help when i cant see very well behind, in order to know which side is closer to any object. But even that is not worth the trouble. I will just have extra careful parking
