engine spraybcleaning

Featured Replies

Hi, I want to spray off general salt and grime from my engine. I won't use a high pressure lance, it will be a hand pumped sprayer. I just wanted to know which parts I need to cover with a bit of tin foil before I begin. Do these engines have a distributor cap ? I know the air intake sensor needs covering. Please advise. Thanks.

Tin foil??? You will end up shorting something out with that.

Cover electrical connections/plugs and the fuse box with plastic bags and spray the bits that dont look electrical.

Spray over on light spray setting with hose pipe.

I use Meguairs engine cleaner spray on and leave to soak for five mins

Agitate with a alloy wheel brush and a soft detail or paint brush for the tricky areas

Spray off lightly

I use Meguairs engine dressing spray on liberally shut bonnet for 10 mins

Wipe down with microfibres cloth and start engine to dry any hidden components

I use the jet wash on it about once a month. No issues at all.

same here.

Distributor cap?  On a diesel?????

Modern engine bays are so much cleaner.  Can't be bottomed any more.

But when I was, a jet wash with the lance held quite a distance away.  Then a good blast of dispersant, then immediately start the engine and go for a drive to evaporate any lurking moisture.  Take your tin of wd40 and a wiper with you just in case.

Should you get back OK, open the bonnet to let out any residual vapour and mop up any puddles remaining.

Ta guys. . .

I prefer my engine to be dirty and greasy, the best anti-corrosion resistence there is!

After all it's only ever me and the local Skoda dealer that see's it.

Soooooo, where are the spark plugs then, clever clogs :giggle:

Id have the engine running whilst you clean it then give it a run round the block to dry out the engine bay & electrical connections.
