Is a vehicle worth more just cos its one of the last registered?

Featured Replies

Ive got one of the last 20 51 plate skoda fun's left on the road and ive had people tell me that i should hang on to it cos it will be worth more once its at classic status as its one of the last?

I dont think so but im not really in to cars/vans anymore, which you can tell as im looking to get a vivaro next for the extra room.

i'm not convinced it makes any difference to be honest, they are getting rare now though, within a few years they will all be gone, they are only really worth good money if they are all original and not rotten, and most of them have started rusting out now.

i think you would regret buying a vivaro van, they are riddled with engine and electrical faults, they do drive very nice though

I lot depends on how rare it was in the first place. So a late Fun is probably worth more than a late Felicia Pick-up, for example

Ill see if can get a few extra £s for it when i sell it then, no harm in trying.

The reason behind the vivaro is that i was looking at T5's but you they are just too small and expensive, Vivaro's/trafics/primastars just seem to tick all the boxes for me, shame about the badge though!

T5 is the same size as a vivaro and a much better van - we have a new T5 and love it.

No but if I was looking at a model of car I might be interested in the last run since they tend to be better specced and have had more of the issues fixed than the early versions.

So no not worth more but possibly easier to sell.

There is (was) also a tendency for manufacturers to seriously up-specc the end of a model run, in an effort to sell them, and the higher specc components in stock, off to people who would otherwise be waiting until the new model comes out, leaving the previous models sitting in the showroom (or more likely on a disused aerodrome).

Some 15 years ago my brother got a phenomenal deal on a Rover 600 with just about every whistle and bell available fitted to it, just as the 75 was released.

He still goes all nostalgic about it.

With modern JIT manufacturing methods,  and customer waiting times of months in some cases, I suspect that this is now a much rarer occurrence.
