Speaker Problems

Featured Replies

Noticed a problem with my passenger door speakers. I was sat waiting for the missus with the music on around volume 6 and the passenger side just cut out while the drivers side was still on. I turned up the volume and they come back on. Im noticed it a few times now. Any ideas what could me??

Loose connection or a damaged wire? Do you have standard speakers or aftermarket?

Yeah electrical faults can be hard to diagnose.

It could be the stereo, only way to check would be to try another one to see if the problem persists.

It could be the speaker itself but again the only way to know would be to swap for a known working one.

I say wiring/connection because, with the vibration either from the road or from the speaker itself could in theory cause an intermittent fault.

These are all guesses without actually checking individual components with a multi-meter, or working parts.

That's my two pennies chap. Maybe it's a perfect excuse to upgrade the lot. ;)

A scan with VCDS may show something.

Upgrade!? It won't cost you a lot to get a better sounding system.

No point wasting time/money diagnosing faults on an already poor sounding system. But you can check a couple of things in the meantime if you don't want to upgrade just yet.

Take the door card off and have a little prod and a poke of the wiring ect. Take the Stereo out and again have a little look and a wiggle.

I have a known working speaker and a standard stereo that I took out of mine before I upgraded, you're welcome to it if want you pick it up or arrange for collection. Probably isn't worth the effort though chap I live near Taunton.

Problem is back again it went away now its back noticed it more this morning when goes of the left side speakers crackle alot then go back on and off alot again when turn up volume it stops and goes back to normal for a few minutes

Mine did this, turned out to be the head unit.

Mine was doing the same. I've checked the wiring and a few cables had to be replaced. Before doing this, you can also try to reseat the connectors from the A-pillar. While my passenger side front speaker was starting to work after I was raising the volume, the central locking mechanism was working with a mine of it's own only on that door (there mighe have been a short somewhere, because when I was wide opening the door, I was hearing the lock doing .. something .. not sure what).
