Whoopdeewhoop! Bearings were fine after all then.

Had these cheapo tyres finally replaced with some Michelen Pilots today, and that nagging knackered wheel bearing noise HAS gone!

I was told 18 months ago, but still had that nagging doubt in the back of my mind, doh.

sooooooo, you ran around with a suspected dodgy wheel bearing for 18 months :giggle:

No, I suspected it, not the mechanic.

I was shown but still found it difficult to comprehend

I'd get a proper alignment done or it might come back

Common noise problem with cheapo 'directional'  tyres I've been told.

Upon removal though, I was actually very pleased on close inspection, to notice that the wear rate was absolutely 'bob on' and 100% even on all 4 tyres.

Front ones on the edge were starting to show small cracks and about 2.5 mm left after 25k, but the rears still had about 50% meat still on them.

Served me well anyway, albeit with that annoying humming for the last 18 months.

Shame to bin them really, but when asked would I like them back, I told him they weren't actually worth 'arf a carrot.

I'm pretty much hoping for the same tomorrow. The car is being completely re shod with four new tyres and I'm hoping it will cure a slight bearing type noise which has developed recently.

If not, it's in for a service on Monday, so hoping my mechanic mate can sort it out. Otherwise it's going to be a bloody expensive month!

Had the same myself wheel bearing noise on rear end when bought car, idiot I bought car off said it was due to 1 winter tyre being fitted on the front which made me chuckle, it had odd tyres on front and 2 cheapy tyres on the back, 1 of the cheapys which still had 6mm on parts of the tread had raised and mishaped 4 new michelins and the noise went but I also nearly went and spent cash on a paid of wheel bearings

Glad to say that it was tyre noise & not a bearing. Happy days!

Two happy pigs this week then ey? ^^^

Noticed my fuel consumption has crept up this week, so suspect the wrong pressures have been put in mine. Must check TODAY.

Might just be the tyres themselves bumping up your mpg. I got about 10% more when I switched to the Goodyears.
