3 bleeps and an orange warning light when reversing....

Featured Replies

My girlfriend has had this a couple of time now when reversing. Backing out of the drive and about to stop and pull forward, a little steering on but not stressing it, then three loud audible bleeps spaced about a second between each is heard from the dash accompanied by orange warning light on the lower section of dash lights which I did t quite see, it was gone quick, but I don't think it was the round 'steering fault' light. Any ideas ?

Please don't suggest reversing bleepers, I've had the car for 6 years ;)

What the hell is this ? She wasn't aware of anything such as the steering cutting out

Somebody must know, but again, now the car drives fine

could be steering check fluid level

or brake fluid level, clutch and brake share same reservoir

when were the pads last changed or brake fluid changed?

Does the prefacelift have a reservoir then? Mines electric so was just wondering :)

otaylor38 => You'll find that your 2013 has electrohydraulic steering, an electric motor drives the fluid pump rather than the engine directly so it saves fuel as it only pumps when necessary. As a result it definitely still has a fluid reservoir which is down low between the battery and the headlight.

Checking the power steering oil level might not be very easy:

The screwed lid for the reservoir is located in an opening on the frame side rail in the front left section of the engine compartment.

On certain vehicle versions the screwed lid of the reservoir is covered by the battery tray because of the different battery dimensions. If this is the case remove the battery and the battery tray.

Check the hydraulic oil level with the dipstick of the screwed lid.

Do not refer to the „MAX“ and „MIN“ markings on the reservoir to check the hydraulic oil level.

Check the level of hydraulic oil, top up with oil if necessary

  Note

   If necessary remove air filter

Then if necessary, remove battery and battery tray

–   Unscrew the screwed lid from the engine pump aggregate reservoir.

–   Wipe the oil dipstick with a clean non-fluffing cleaning cloth.

–   Screw the lid by hand onto the engine pump aggregate reservoir and unscrew again.

  Note

The correct oil level can only be determined for a fully screwed in screwed lid.

Oooh. Cheers mate. I knew it was electrohydraulic as thats what they told me when they adjusted the weight for me.

I should of clicked that hydraulic is oil, so it must have a reservoir too haha. Ill have a look for it sometime.

I dint know thats exactly how it worked

Thankyou :)

fantastic info guys, car is due a service very soon, will get it checked for fault codes, and also pads, fluids checked.... there has been an intermittent issue where by the power steering simply refuses to work, often when manouvreing, but once on a small roundabout, and just like the pople who had faulty steering on the BMW Mini....... it is REALLY heavy and could easily cause an accident, so far it's only had this issue once when drivnig.... but I've had it a dozen times over a couple of years when parking etc
