Classis Road Angel - Hardwiring?

Featured Replies

I've just put a Road Angel in to my new Octavia vRS and have hidden all wiring under the carpet edging until you get to level with the seat. I have then temporarily run the cable under the floor mats and into the fag lighter.

Is the fag light the best place to hard wire it to, when I get round to it, or is there somewhere else? I'm thinking the fag lighter, because there is access to the wiring underneath the removable cubby hole, so it doesn't require dismantly large chunks of the car...

TIA

have had mine hardwired but not sure where to :o as my friendly car phone kit installer did it for me as a favour. works a treat tho

I'd just leave it in the fag lighter (unless you use it to light fags, of course). In my Octy estate the wire runs from the lighter socket across under the seat to the edge of the door trim, under the trim (which can be lifted up) then up the right-hand side of the dashboard (the wire pushes in invisibly) to the Road Angel on the right-hand bottom of the windscreen. Then when you stop you just pull the adapter half-way out of the lighter socket to switch off. The only visible wiring is an inch or two to the door trim and by the boot opening handle (sorted with a little black carpet tape).

I find the best way is to route the wiring along the top of the dash, down behind the fuse box cover and if you remove the drivers undertray panel there are plenty of supply feeds and earths under there to tap into.

Silly question, but if you hardwire your Road Angel, how do you switch it off?

Hmm, intersting point. I would have wired it to an ignition live, but that means if the cars on, so's the RA which is not much use for Franch...

Looks like it's staying in the fag lighter...
