Dog Guard with Boot Divider - anyone got the Travall one?

Featured Replies

Because I'm lazy, I'm justing going to quote an email I sent to Travall and then ask anyone with a similar requirement or experience to comment!

I sent this mail 10 days ago and am yet to get a response, which normally would mean move on to another supplier, but I can't find any other similar options out there so I will have to chase them up. They are at least UK based so I'll just give them a call this week and see what the deal is!

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I am about to pull the trigger on ordering a new Octavia Estate, to be delivered in June (so will actually be MY15 I expect as it should be build after 26th May…)

I currently have in my Audi SQ5 with OEM guard and divider which works great for my little dog… please see link to image here;
http://i1298.photobucket.com/albums/ag52/josedebardi/Misc/DSC05100_zpse84c91e0.jpg

Now I found this on your website which claims compatibility with 2009-on...
http://dogguardsandcages.com/divider/skoda/octavia-estate-2005-to-2009-and-2009-on/tdg1234d?

However the ‘traditional’ guard it would attach to is specific to the 2013-on… And there is no 2013-on divider option when you sort by car model…
http://dogguardsandcages.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=859_1862&products_id=6413

So first question…
Does the above divider work with the 2013-on guard? And if not, do you plan to make one (ideally prior to June!)?

Now second question, and the reason I really posted the link to my Audi setup…
My dog is small (as you can see) and so doesn’t need 50% of the boot. The Audi guard can be set to either 50/50 or 70/30 split position (as I have it). So can your divider do similar? Looking at the way it fixes to the to the guard, it looks like you need 2 holes drilled in the top of the guard, and a threaded tube welded in the right spot below them - so conceivably if you drill the two holes at 50/50 and also at 70/30, and then affixed 2 threaded holes one at 50/50 and one at 70/30 it would work. This also assumes the profile of the rear window is such that it would not foul the divider when not dead centre…

If the answer to question 1. is ‘It won’t work but we plan to release a new divider for the 2013-on in the next x months’ would it also be too much to ask you to build in the 70/30 split option at the same time if it is not already possible?

The other option for me, is if the divider does work with the 2013-on guard, and would not foul the rear window at 70/30 position, but you are not willing to make the necessary modification to the guard to fit it as such, if you would be willing to send an extra threaded tube along with the guard/divider when I order I can get it welded in the right spot and drill a couple of extra holes myself and touch the paint up to prevent corrosion.

Many Thanks!

José

I'll mention this - they may be waiting for a couple of orders to make it worth making another batch.

I got an email the other week saying they were 2 or 3 months from producing the divider.

I did start a thread somewhere so have a search.

There is a company called guardsman that do guards and dividers but there aren't any pictures in their website and it seems they are using an A4 divider (the car, not the paper size)! I emailed them to ask for pictures or a description on how it attached but never got a reply.

If they really are 2-3 months away that suits me, I'm waiting 20+ weeks! I'll chase them and see what they say.

I did have a search before posting this, didn't find anything tho :(

Just emailed guardsman - their 2004-2013 divider specifically states it can be used in several locations so I'm hoping the newer one can too...

Cool - I will certainly update this thread with any info I get :)

Good neeews! The new Dacia.... No I'm kidding!

Sean from Guardsman just got back to me... The website has been updated and the 2013-on guard and divider as available (the A4 reference was an error). It also confirms the divider can be placed in various positions for different split ratios!

Great price as well!

I'll be ordering mine in a few weeks as we get nearer to my delivery.

He also sent me the divider fitting instructions for reference that I've chucked on dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/n5m0r0yjuti1e7v/G1341D%20octavia%202013%200n_Layout%201.pdf

I hope that bottom foot adjusts or it's going to be a poor fit for those of us with the normal boot floor.

I'd also check you can use the dog guard with the load cover as going by the picture it doesn't look likely. Not an issue if you'll have the divider in place all the time though.

My email response enquired about the normal floor... I presumed the upper height of the variable was equal to the normal anyway?

On the assumption that its is only an inch different if it is, then a longer threaded bolt on the bottom foot would solve it (it is adjustable to a degree already, but not sure on exact length of the bolt).

The normal floor is lower than the variable one. The variable gives a flat load area but the normal floor is probably about 2 inches lower. Have a quick google for pictures and you'll see what I mean.

OK, so...

If you want to use it with the variable boot floor in the lower position, or you have the normal boot floor there are 2 options...

1. They can supply a longer bottom foot bolt... I'm not keen on the gap at the bottom as my dog is small and may get under it and also 'things' may roll under it. It's a reasonable option if you have the variable boot floor and have a medium sized dog and want to keep the option of high/low floor.

2. They can customise the divider so it is a bit deeper. The normal price for the guard and divider package is £195. The extended version is £240. I'll be going for this second option.

Ah well at least they have a solution.

I think I'll be going for the travall one as the fitting seems slightly neater and will allow the load cover to still be used (without the divider obviously) which is handy for the trips with luggage but no dog.

Mind you, on second look the luggage cover may well fit with the guardsman one as the retaining bolt things seat pretty flush with the seats. It'd be handy if they showed the cover in place in their photos though.

I'll ask Sean...

Looking at the photos on the Travall site there appears to be a 1/2 inch gap between the rear seats and the load cover, so I would think the hooks on the guardsman will not foul it.

Got confirmation... load cover fits fine.

Quick update...

Dog guard and divider arrived...

2 problems;

1. The arm on the passenger side is not sitting flush with the top of the trim. Looks like it's been welded on wonky to me

2. The divider came without the extra depth to accommodate a non-variable boot floor - then an extension arrived which had the tabs to keep it from swivelling welded on the wrong side - currently awaiting an all new divider that is the right depth for the normal boot floor...

Despite the problems I am overall happy, and Sean @ Guardsman is being really helpful in getting them resolved properly (and so then also allowing them to have a solution for other non-variable boot floor customers in the future).

Will update once I have it all sorted...
