When clutch pedal pressed down ticking/Rattling noise

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 1.4 16v 100bhp has a vibration in the pedal when cold, and then once the car is hot and you press the clutch pedal down with the engine running there is a ticking/rattling noise from the engine bay. When you take your foot off the pedal  the noise stops, the car is still changing gear fine at the moment.. Think a new clutch is coming but need to save up the £350.00 to replace it at my local garage. Any advice would be great as cant afford for it to come off the road.

Clutch release bearing it could be making the noise.

Not necessarily.

My Vauxhall Insignifica has just had the DMF, clutch and release bearing replaced at under 2 yrs old and 26k; the release bearing collapsed, causing the friction plate to wear unevenly which then rogered the DMF.

I'd love to claim that it was down to my hooligan driving, but I drive like Morgan Freeman in 'Driving Miss Daisy', it was a manufacturing fault on the release bearing.

Luckily Vauxhall paid for it all, but it just shows how one small component can cause costly and catastrophic failure, so I'd get it all checked ASAP.

I second that my Vx works van has just had a dmf and clutch release bearing at £800, it is either the dmf or release bearing by the sounds of it.

Won't be a dmf on a 1.4 petrol Fabia.

Forgot it was a petrol release bearing then IMO.

Yes it's just a conventional dry plate clutch on the 1.4, normally the release bearing will make a whirring noise if they are worn but if it's ticking then there's something imminently wrong with it.
