Service due computer reset

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My vRS had its first long life service about a month ago. Dreadful experience from Westover Group in poole. I think I posted the details previously.

Anyway, to add to the issues, I noticed that the car computer service interval was showing blanks rather than next service due date in 19,000 miles or 720 days. (Or whatever the exact miles days would show.)

Anyway, the dealer told me that this is because it "takes about 50 miles for the computer to work out the number." Ok I thought. That's fine.

1 month later and 400 miles the computer is still showing dashes.

My questions are;

Should the dealer have reset the computer as part of the service and they lied to me?

Should the car have learned the numbers after 50 miles and hasn't for some reason. No ones fault?

Will the car learn if given a little longer to assess the way the car is driven?

Does it matter if the car doesn't show any numbers anyway? Shall I just remember to get it serviced before MOT time anyway.

Do I need to take the car back to the dealer (at my expense of course) to have it reset?

It should've been reset by the dealer when the service was completed.

I'm sure it tells you in the manual how to reset the service indicator, if it doesn't then a Google search should bring up the answer.

On my last few cars it could be done by the owner usually with the key in the ignition but without starting it, there was a sequence to follow with pushing the buttons for resetting the trip etc, that was on Peugeots though.

You paid them to service it, and that included resetting.

Ask them for the cost of fuel to go back to have them do their job properly,

then they might learn to do the job,

otherwise you will just be 1 of the several in the last few weeks that reported the same thing on here.

That is for Fixed Servicing but they should still reset the Service indicator.

Did you not Purchase a 3 year Service package and the vRS should be on fixed servicing then.

Are you doing a high annual mileage that means Variable Servicing suits your use?

The computer takes quiet a while to determine the next service, at least its not been reset to fixed as that will show the mileage from the start. When a variable is reset, the mileage and time does not calculate immediately.

I never had a problem with Westover when they were based in Corfe Mullen, maybe since they moved the service has gone down hill.

Don't worry, my service interval took several weeks before figures showed. I think it is based on the type of driving you do.

Give it chance.

Showing - - - is correct for a variable service and proves you have been given a variable service.

If after a service it shows mileage, you've been changed by the dealer to fixed.

It does not show that they put in long life oil but since most do even when a Twincharger is on fixed Servicing,

so they will have

Will they not,!  in These we Trust!

Some engines have long life oil regardless.

The post is about a Mk2 vRS Fabia, and they mostly get VW 504.00 and did when they were coded as Fixed,

even thought Skoda say VW 502.00

Then yes Variable is VW 504 or 507.

Because the Service Interval still shows _ _ _ _, means nothing other than we will wait and see if it registers Days and miles to the Next Oil change in the next short while.

No matter how long the Oil is OK for, i would not let a Twincharger Oil Filter stay in for more than the 9400 miles of the fixed service,

no matter how good the Oil Quality.

Just as easy at the Service or PDI to not do the job right as you reset. or ZERO,

or change over fully from one to the other. but those that do it as a daily thing will be bound to know how to!

Thanks all.

I'm going to take it in next week to get it reset. I'll let you know what they say.

Once you've done 500 miles since service it'll then show numbers.

It's perfectly normal. If you ask for it to be reset they'll likely set you on fixed. I'd leave alone.

UPDATE. the trip computer has now started showing miles and days remaining as you said Gadgetman.

It does however show 12,500 miles or 460 days for some reason rather than the 18,000 and 700ish days I was expecting. I'm not going to worry though - that's until just before it's 3 years old so I'll get everything checked out at that service before the warranty expires.
