DIY scuff repair

Featured Replies

Came back from holiday to find some halfwit had scuffed my door

Quick drag of my fingernail revealed it was just the clearcoat that was scraped, and it looked worse than it was.

so having a spare couple of hours, and armed with a duster and some rubbing compound, set to work

eventually......

Can only just be seen from a few inches away, but has virtually disappeared.

Anything deeper would need touched in and wet sanded, but clearcoat scuffs, bad as they are, can often be just buffed away. Takes a bit of elbow grease.

What polish and pad combo did you use?

What paint thickness did you have to work with?

I bet it took forever by hand

took a while. Brand new paint. not sure what thickness the clearcoat is? probably took about half the clearcoat off in the scuff area to even things out. knew it would be difficult to burn through to primer doing it by hand, which may have happened with a DA in my hands

Looks rather aggressive that stuff

If you had used your DA..its likely that you would have got a better result with a less harsh polish IMO

How do you know how much clear coat you removed if you didn't measure it?

Anyway..it looks ok..

I would get it measured though

Where are you?
