De cat on standard vrs exhaust system?

Featured Replies

Can I fit a de cat to a standard back box/ exhaust system on my mk1 fabs vrs? If so best place to get hold of one!

Cheers

Some new legislation came on stream at MOT stations 2014 February 16th.

Is it legal what you propose, or have a chat with MOT tester perhaps?

I'm sure it could done, but why would you bother going to all that trouble?

There is a thread a couple down from yours worth a read before considering a decat, it will basically become a legal requirement to have a cat fitted if there was one put on from the factory (regardless of if it passes emissions) . Regardless if you have a 'friendly MOT tester' best bet would be miltek.

Just fancy something a little different minis the helicopter tick over sound!

I may be wrong as i havn't got mine decat but im pretty sure it doesn't alter the sound aspect of the exhaust much

It does make it slightly louder but you'd be better off doing away with the back box and replacing it with some pipe and a tip. You'll get a deeper sound and it won't affect the mot. If you leave the cat in you won't get the jet engine noise on idle either

Milltek is a different bore size to the standard pipes, so you would need to find an adaptor.

Or wait until March time, when I'm sure many 2nd hand decat pipes will be cropping up due to this new legislation (******s)..

To be fair it's about time they clamped down on stuff like dpf removal, it will be ecu modifications next I bet!

Stick a whistle up the exhaust-pipe perhaps ?? LOL
