Honda Accord Type R

Featured Replies

Hi guys, up for sale is my Honda Accord Type R.

I bought this car about a month ago as a toy for the summer, as I work 4 miles away from home at the moment. I have always wanted one as I love Hondas, so thought I would treat myself.

Last week this all changed and I have been told that I will be required to go to Leicester 3 days a week as of March. This is a 120 mile round trip for me.

This means that unfortunately this has to go. I'm going to have to get a passat tdi or similar.

It has done around 84,500 miles (will rise as being used daily), which makes it by far the lowest mileage example up for sale (that I can find). Most are on well over 100k. Some nearer double that.

It has good service history with various receipts. The previous owner was a vw tech and did all his servicing there.

It has recently had £500 spent on it at VTEC Direct in Winsford - these guys are the people to take an ATR to, and have a great reputation.

They replaced the cambelt, balance shaft belt and hydraulic tensioner. The tensioner is a common part to go on these and I had no record of it being changed, so I had it done for peace of mind. The car was given a full health check and they found it needed a new osf top arm and a caliper as it was sticking slightly. All of this work came to £500.

I have also put two new front tyres on as one had a split in the side wall. The rears are very recent as well.

The car is good to go maintenance wise for the foreseeable future.

It is MOT'd and Tax'd until the end of June (being prefacelift it is cheaper to tax).

The car is completely standard and unabused, the only modifications are a K and N Typhoon induction kit (sounds unbelievable) and a Pioneer head unit with iPod control.

The pictures really do not do the colour justice. Being prefacelift it has the very dark purple/black metallic paint which looks lovely in the sun.

The engine does not smoke in VTEC, and it does not suffer from the 5th gear syncro problem. The previous owner told me is was sorted at Honda and I do not doubt this as I have never had a problem selecting any of the gears, even on the coldest of mornings. The LSD makes it lovely to drive in the twisties. It is by far the best handling car I've owned.

It was serviced yesterday with Fuch Titan Pro Race S oil and a Hamp filter. The best stuff I could get my hands on...

I am looking for £2650 ONO.

The car will be available to view the weekend after next as I am going to London in it next weekend.

I am located just off the M5 J1 in West Bromwich.

Any questions PM me or call/text 07833087858.

Thanks

James :)

Nice looking bit of kit there!

Excellent cars, seriously looked set one of these some time back.

5th gear synchro is a well-known fault, good that yours has had that done.

Have you tried the type-r-owners forum as a selling medium, they are a keen, knowledgeable bunch who would surely jump at a car with this mileage???

Always wanted one of these, nice car

Thanks guys :) it's a really Honest example.

I will be trying the honda forums too. Pistonheads will most likely be my best bet though.

I thought I'd pop it on here too, just incase anyone had anything suitable that they would like to do a deal on :)

Absolute superb drivers car, I know Andy well at VTEC DIRECT as that is where mine used to go for it's work.

Great mileage & the typhoon puts a huge smile on your face.......especially when in a tunnel !!!

If it's 'pirates black' then put it in the advert & try to get some photos in the sun, this will be a huge plus when selling.

Good luck with the sale

It is indeed pirates black :) I tried to describe it in the advert but I couldn't for the life of me remember the paint colour.

The noise really is unreal considering it's just an air filter. I don't see why anyone would want to put a loud exhaust on one as the induction noise is so addictive.

Great car......in the best colour.......doubt it will be for sale long at that price......if only i had a spare £2.5k!

That's a lovely example, might have to sell my Fabia!

Never really noticed the accord typre r but it seems to be a rather dark horse. 'Japans answer to the sierra cosworth'

Just wondering, would this beat a stage one fabia vrs?

Very cool car indeed.

Just wondering, would this beat a stage one fabia vrs?

0-60 on this is 6.7 secs according to Parkers, Fabia vRS is 9.2 secs so I reckon it wouldn't be close but a remapped Fabia may be a different story. It does have nearly 80bhp more but not as much torque!

HONDA ACCORD TYPE R
Engine:
 2,157cc 4-cyl
Transmission: 5-speed manual
Power (hp): 212@7,200rpm
Torque (lb ft): 158@6,700rpm
0-62mph: 7.1 sec (to 60mph)
Top speed: 140mph
Weight: 1,306kg

Hmm that would be interesting! I think my stage one 170bhp 300lbft gets to 60 in around 7 seconds.

42bhp less but 142lbft more torque.

plus that soundtrack!

Until it came to the corner then bye bye Fabia :D

That is so true. I think I could have thrown £1000 at the suspension on my vRS and it wouldnt handle anywhere near as well as the accord does.

From a standing start I personally don't think a stage 1 vRS would have a chance, the power delivery and LSD makes it pretty quick off the mark. You haven't got 300ft/lb at low rpm lighting the tyres up and spinning the power away.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys they're much appreciated :)

Any chance of some more detailed pics including interior please? You can email them straight to me if you want, also what tax band is it?
