Have this fault on VCDS, I have cleared it but it comes back :wonder:  Door locks and unlocks OK so not sure if there is a real fault

Any help much appreciated

Might be worth checking the wiring in the door grommet as it opens for a broken one.

Thanks, will do. looked at the wiring diagram of the lock in the Haynes manual but it does not make it clear how the switches move in response to the lock state. may have to do a comparison with the passenger side. Just need some dry weather, as said not desperate as the lock looks like it functions OK. just worried that if it fails it is near enough impossible to get to the motor without opening the door which I may not be able to do.

If the door lock sign is similar to the Mark IV Golf (and I suspect they are all a progress of that design) the locks have micro-switched to confirm the lock position. These can become blocked with white grease from when the door locks are periodically lubricated at service time. Sometimes the microswitches themselves fail or there is a dry solder join to them.
