talk to me about stages for vrs

Featured Replies

ive had my vrs for about a month now and I need educated on costs and performance gains from the stages. I googled but never really seen anything to answer my question.

The previous owner remapped it at star performance. its now putting out 254 bhp and 280 pounds of torque which is actually quite impressive from just a remap.

Which is alright is just not quick, quick, how much to go to stage 2? I assume stage 1 is just a decent remap.

how much increase with i see to go to stage two

or

stage 3

im weighing up if i fancy it or not.

My stage one put out 245 bhp and 260 lb ft (ish). Cost £300 or so.

Stage 2 was 270 bhp and 300 lb ft, budget for at least a 3" downpipe (from £300 ish onwards), the cost of the software and, if you upgrade the high pressure fuel pump. You could be looking at £1000 for all of that.

A K04 kit will cost you about £800 second hand, plus labour, plus a bigger intercooler if you want it to flow properly, plus the downpipe and fuel pump if you haven't done those already. You might also want to consider an intake as well (£300 ish) so if you're going from stage 1 straight to 3, expect it to cost somewhere approaching (if not exceeding) £2500 plus labour. If you want the full fat stage 3 360bhp experience, you're going to want to consider a clutch and a diff.

There are ways around spending ££££s. I got some of my parts (exhaust, intercooler, intake) second hand and offset the cost by selling off OE parts. It's always worth finding out if you can have your car used as a guinea pig for any new or development products. I've got 320bhp and 370 lb ft and I think it's cost me about half what it would have done to go stage 3. It's never going to be cheap and you're never going to add value to your car but it's all part of the fun I guess. I don't smoke, I'm not a big drinker and I've got all the guitars I need so I have to do something :D

i feared it would cost that kind of money, the remap is about as far as i need to go.

id sooner spend the money on trackdays. thanks anyway

And then you'll want to go faster.....:D

It was kind of within my budgeted plans to modify mine, I would never have forked out for stage 3 but the stage 2.75 I'm running now is almost as quick and putting out more torque than some stage 3 cars.

I doubt I would have found 300bhp, with the same spec and age for what I've spent including the car or at least without getting into debt over it.

don't get me wrong id like the stage 3, 300 bhp would do nicely but I cant justify the price when I have 3 bikes sitting there. but thanks for the infp
