Climatronic fault

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have some strange climatronic behaviour that some one may be able to shed some light on as a main dealer and two specialists cant.

When the car is running with climatronic set in 'auto' at say 20 degrees it works away fine for approx. 1 hour (plenty of hot or cold air entering cabin as expected for the temp set on the system). After this time there is very little airflow via the cabin vents, either cold or hot air depending on the outside temperature the affect is the same i.e. low air flow, this results in the cabin getting cold (or hot) and in response to this the indicated fan speed increases as the system attempts to respond to the change in temp and meet the requested value set on the climatronic but still very little air flow. If I turn off the engine and restart the system works as normal again for approx. 1 hour. Also if I press the 'Econ' button the airflow will increase and cabin will heat up as appropriate. I have had the system scanned and it showed a low refrigerant fault code, so I had the system refilled and still the same problem. The compressor appears to be working as it does chill the air right down to icy cold for the first hour of operation in summer time.

I have been advised that it is a possible issue with the fan or climatronic thermostat however no fault codes are showing on a VCDS scan. If it was an issue with the fan then surely it wouldn't work with Econ selected also, where as mine works fine in Econ mode???

This problem is very puzzling and just doesn't make sense!

thanks,

Alan

Does anyone have an info on the number of sensors in the system as I have read online that some cars have suffered faulty sensors which don't show up a fault code on VCDS e.g. evaporator sensor. Any idea where I could find a diagram of the system?

Thanks,

Alan

I'm in a similar situation where my 2006 1.9 PD 105 climatronic system starts off ok as you say then half an hour or so later it starts to fluctuate.

The fan speed has a mind if its own and the temperature goes noticeably cold and hot.

The aircon seems to chill OK but the Max heat setting is pretty lame.

A generic OBD scanner shows no error codes.
