VW move Up!

Featured Replies

Having a few bits done on the Fabia so been given this. 0-60 in 14.4 years takes some getting used to, compared to the 6.8secs in the vRS and instant gearchanges. £9425 is a bit much though.

Mrs had an Up as a loan car for almost a week.

She hated it.

Jeremy Clarkson quite like his!

I have over a hundred miles to do tomorrow on my commute and since I won't be able to overtake much I'll be leaving earlier. Good fun ragging every last horse power out of it though.

How much is the Skoda version

It could be worse, apparently the equivalent Fraud Fester is £17_000!!?

Request a bigger one ! The rule at work was anything over 100 miles is 1.4 territory and over 250 a 1.8/2.00 litre.

Mind you,  I had to do that once or twice because the local hire company had nothing else on the forecourt.  It was a bit of fun cramming my 6'+ into a two door 1. 2 Clio (Seat full back) and did London to Bristol. Clio did 'arf go when you got the engine spinning and the heavy block on the front end kept it well anchored.

Ride might not be so good in the VW with trademark hard suspension and continentals. But that's what they are designed to be safe runabouts for first time drivers/mums/grannies.

I thought VW Design and policy was get as much cash as you can out the Blue Rinsers,

charge more for the almost same product as SEAT & Skoda offer.

Let them pay to fund the Advertising being done to let them think it is the Premium & superior Product and the other Sister cars will have worse suspension and tyres.

Mine is over £10k with metallic paint. If anyone pays that for one they are bonkers.

The commute went fine albeit slightly slower. Used £16 of unleaded for 132 miles at £1.27/litre so not that bad. Overtakes had to be done with momentum and slip streaming. Odd accelerating down a slip road and everything pulling away from you. Handling was odd. Skoda's aren't known for steering feel but this Up! was awful. Way too light and I only knew to take corners at certain speeds because I regularly do it in the vRS. Turning in hope rather than expectation is not something I liked.

On the plus side I had mine back this morning and it felt like a rocket again and I appreciate it's quirks far more now.

We had a camping trip to Scotland that was like that. 8 days out of 10 were near constant rain with 36 hours non stop! 1 of those dry days was the day we got their, so putting the trailer tent up was like being in a greenhouse.

What's the driver's space like  ?Is it a Hammondmobile ? Or could a 6 footer drive it ?

I put it in my driving position and I'm 6'1 with long legs and I still had a good way to go backwards. Rear legroom is then non-existent though.

Wheel only moves up and down which is a shame. No form of maxidot, no temp gauge, no MPG readout, no steering wheel controls, traction control that couldn't be turned off.

Not driven the citigo, however I've been loaned an up and mii and both are crap!

They all are tbh. There is no steering feel whatsoever. I think BossFox's maybe different though

I think the CitiGoGo had better be different in that respect!

The UpMiiGo trio are very highly rated by most motoring journalists and indeed the people who own and buy this sort of car too.

I think it all depends on the perspective you are coming from. If you normally drive a bigger more expensive car you are unlikely to be that impressed, but if you are used to driving something like a 107 or an older Fabia you probably will.

Similar with the Rapid which gets a lot of bullying from Octavia/Yeti drivers and the like, but if you are coming from a Fabia/Roomster it is a bit of a step up.

Actually is it not just that the 'Up! Mii Citigo' and the Rapids are adequate, jack of all trade master of none, middle of the road,

So the wee one is not particularly cheap or competent for what it is, Just so so suspension, and Rapid is just so Dull. IMO.

Where is the Skoda 'Emotion' they are trying to tell us is coming,

why do Skoda make adverts that make you want to see and drive their cars.,

& when you do go look and try you find that there Advertising Agency is full of Advertising Agents,

that have managed to make something boring look interesting.

Skoda really is getting very very boring,

they need the new Fabia 3 to actually be good, and drive and handle well, 'Emotional & Squat',  just like a Junior Sumo, but more agile.

And that's my problem with it. It's too bland and the Rapid is even worse. How can the VW Group make so many dull cars and yet end up making a Yeti which is more than the sum of it's parts? All the CitiGo/Up!/Mii needs is the 1.2 TSI engine and more involving steering. It handled well enough it's just I had no confidence in it.

And I love cheap, small hatchbacks. I rave about several regularly

I waited a pretty long time to get to drive a Citigo with ASG and was so disappointed.

Now it is a Renault Twingo with Twin Clutch i am excited about,

i loved my first road car which Hillman Imp when i could drive manuals.

Really hoping i will not be deflated when the time comes.

There should be lots of interesting small light cars coming in the next 18 months or so.

& ones with nice autoboxes would suit me.

The Clio RS 200 T was just not right to my liking but thats from being spoiled with DSG's

Defo the citigo and its sister need the minimum of 1.2 tsi stiffer suspension and it would be much improved but the grannies that usually drive them will only crash them ! , as for Richards scaryagogo :o it will be doing 11's all day long

It is supposed to be.. Skoda are talking of moving the design language on another step this year. Have you seen the "Vision C"?

'Inspirational',

But i like 'Squat',

I wonder if while the Design and Media-Advertising team where sitting coming up with ideas,

that someone mentioned it might be thought as some that

the new Skoda could be just in the end a S**'T.car.

The citigo, isnt that bad a car! it has its limitations (which us owners know all about), but i guess a lot of people are driving the base model S versions as loan cars. The elegance or sport models are much better equipped and drive much better.

. No form of maxidot, no temp gauge, no MPG readout, .....

Sports and Elegances have the PID and you get all of this and more (satnav, bluetooth audio, phone calls / texts etc) in the PID, the sport also gives you these again on the trip computer on the main dial.

They all are tbh. There is no steering feel whatsoever.

Again the sports and elegances (and all greentech models) have stiffer and lower suspension. I certainly find the steering better then any fabia /  polo that ive driven. The likes of Evo also rate the steering feel / handling on these models.

I dont know about that, my last 3 cars would have all cost a lot more than most skodas and yes it is a downgrade in some respects (and not the 330D i wanted and nearly bought) but it is a good car that suits my needs. Obviously some corners have been cut to cut costs and you either live with these or you dont. I decided i could. Theres also a few ex fabia vRS owners with citigo sports who are satisfied with the citigo.

Yes, we all want a citigo with the forthcoming 110bhp 1.0TSi or even the 1.2TSi but if  /when it happens the cost is probably going to be silly. I've seen 14-15k bandied about for the forthcoming up GT - lunacy.

I don't know why nobody has had a crack at putting a 1.2tsi engine in a Citigo yet.

It's not THAT tricky and would make a great sports model you could map to 130bhp.
