Rear Jacking/axle stand Points

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I am looking to paint the rear drums on my fabia as the cold weather and salt on the roads has taken its toll on them!

Just been reading into the other threads on painting rear drums to get some tips.. One thing is, what is the best place to jack the rear?

-I have the standard skoda scissor jack (deathtrap)

-I have axle stands

I know the standard jack is poor but as I have axle stands it should be fine just to get it up into the air.

Where is the best place to put the axle stand? Assuming I jack the car up at the sill point, I am unable to place the axle stand there. What is recommended?

Would it be preferable to use a trolley jack on the underside of the car and then use the axle stand on the sill? If so then where should the trolley jack be used?

Pics would be very welcome

I don't believe there is anywhere else you could position a stand or trolley jack other than the sill jacking points so of course it's not possible to replace the jack with stands.

To paint the drums you don't have to get under the car so the scissor jack will be fine so long as it is on a good solid surface.

I have made pads for my trolley jacks to suit the sill points and they work very well - of course I still would not get underneath unless on stands but there seems no where that you can position stands.

Perhaps someone can come up with a good alternative.

I jack at the rear under the sill just behind the jacking point with a wood block to spread the load for my trolley jack.

You can then place an axle stand under the rear suspension below the spring/ shocker mount...that's the best description I can come up with.

Place the axel stand under the rear spring, that's what I did... Don't leave it on the skoda jack

Get a hockey puck jack pad and jack on the sill.
