Standard HU - poor radio reception

Featured Replies

The Symphony HU in my Fabia has THE worst radio reception. Got a signal-booster form my previous car, and Im thinking I might install it in the Fabia. But I read something about the Symphony having a built-in radiosignal-booster... ? Will the external booster mess it up, or will it do wonders?

My Symphony HU was always pretty good on AM and FM so it could be something to do with the aerial itself. I had to fit a booster to my JVC as the reception was pants so that would suggest the Symphony had one built in.

Had to wire mine via the power aerial feed from the HU

Could well be a fault with the headunit, have you got warranty?

I changed the HU under warrenty 3 mths ago, but the warrenty went out just the other day. I will contact my dealer again to see what can be done.

Any parts changed under warranty should have 12 months warranty on them thmeselves I think.

So even if the cars warranty has run out the headunit should still be under gurantee.

Jaguar, Landrover will cover the part changed under warranty until the remainder of the vehicles warranty period. However, if there has been a customer contribution towards the replacement (full or in part), then it is covered for 12 months from date of repair as it is considered a purchse. I may be wrong but it's pretty industry standard.

However, your dealer may offer a gesture of goodwill as the vehicle is only just out of warranty. Good luck. Jat

Thanks for that Jat, it may well be the same for Skoda. Im sure the get out is you havent actually paid for it so it doesnt come under the sale of goods act.

If that is the reply I get from my dealer, I will just have to go ahead and swap the HU for a aftermarket one - would probably be the best solution anyway. :D
