Just bought a VRS workshop and service manual needed! AUQ

Featured Replies

Hey there guys, I just bought a mint Octavia VRS 2003 the damned thing even has a bloody cd changer! :P

I have a few questions:

1. Where can I find online some full service manual in pdf form (I'm living in poland, I would like to refrain from the postal charges) If not which book exactly?

2. How can I now whether the engine is functioning at 100% without a visit to the dyno? Obviously no check engine light the engine seems powerfull especially coming from a 81kw 1.9tdi also when its idle there is no movement on the RPM needle, however there is a small "clicking" noise however not very audible. What are the main incicators of the engines performance? I have never had anything besides diesel.

3. Also any usefull recommendations you might have as to what to check.

Thank you guys

And some pics of my new found love!

For a work shop manual for home repairs you want to buy a Haynes manual- very good, clear instructions for common jobs etc. I would have thought you can buy them Poland and in Polish as the things are basically global nowadays. I know it's not an electronic version but getting hold of one will save you hours of searching for stuff

The tick tick tick noise sounds like your canister solenoid- dreadful noise. You can actually remove it and bypass the system which stops the noise (search here for canister delete)

Make sure you give it a full service first- oil, filter, spark plugs. Also check you car in with your local Skoda dealers to check if it is eligible for a coil pack recall (if yes you;ll get some free coil packs). Buy a good panel filter- I prefer Pipercross but others like K&N- this will give you a slight power increase.

You can also do some of the bypasses and deletes on some of the engine's over engineered emissions control systems- search for n249 bypass, SAI delete, OCC installation . All of those will increase response for you, not necessarily power but more responsive

Forgot to add- the coil pack harnesses (part that connects ot the coil pack) won;t do anything for you unless the original is damaged. HIgh conductivity coil pack harnesses are more the realm of serious power things like Supra's and Skylines where they can spend a serious amount of money on them.

Also, having no movement on the RPM needle is good! If it's jumping about there would be an issue.

As for checking for issues- watch fluid levels, listen to the engine, feel how it pulls, check exhaust when idling etc etc. You will know if something is up- it won;t quite sound right, it won;t pull like a train, very smokey at idle

Each spark plug has its own ignition coil, connected directly to plug so there are no separate leads.

Great thanks for the help and advice I will check everything asap, however there is one more thing would you have by any chance a guide just solely on the replacement of the spark plugs ( I just got a nice Bosch set) because I have done all the service items that you have mentioned except changing the spark plugs, oh and I have sadly noticed that the left xenon headlamp is slightly dimmer how would one go about replacement of a xenon headlamp?

Oh and what is the purpose of the canister solenoid? Also where could I find such an guide?

Can't help you with the xenons on these as mine doesn't have them- there's a post made earlier in the week on spark plug gaps though if you have a look.

If you use the search box at the top of the page and search for canister delete or EVAP delete you should find some great guides
