Electrical burning smell

Featured Replies

Per title, on start up this last couple of days, but where oh where do I start to look /investigate?

Fades away after 5 minutes though

Anyone else ever had this?

Worrying that something is eventually going to instantly fail and or combust now.

Which of the four cars?

If a diesel, probably DPF clearing its tubes.

Hardly likely to be DPF on a mk1 Fabia since it doesn't have one.

Starter motor?

I'd check the starter motor and the leads going to it. Loose connexions warm up when subject to heavy loads.

Try starting it then stopping straight away and feeling the starter and wiring for hotspots.

How long do you have to crank it?

Good point/s, well made.

Tar. I'll check that tomorrow.

Don't really think I'd posting the question on here regarding one of the other 3 oldies tbh.

IIRC there have occasionally been reports of burning wiring in the region of the battery box fuses, this is certainly the first place I would look.

Oh dear. Don't like the sound of that.
