Hi all. I have a 1.2 yeti and constantly getting at least 200 miles for the first half a tank but the final half a tank the fuel gauge drops like a stone and am lucky to get another 100 miles before the car tells me I need to refuel. Before anyone says do I change my driving style the answer is no and this is constantly happening so wondered if anyone here has had the same issue and your thoughts would be thanked.

Also forgot to add this is making me very reluctant to get a new petrol yeti and look at diesel which is a pain in itself as I only do around 7500-8000 miles a year.

Fuel gauge inaccuracy, probably.  My Yeti seems to show a fairly constant rate of descent but her predecessor X-Trail's gauge used to sit at the top for about 80 miles before it showed any sign of movement.  I never got the impression, though, that it wasn't actually using any diesel in that time...

Fuel gauges are notoriously non-linear. If anything my Yeti is better than other cars I have had in the past. It is not a problem if you allow for it.

I would have thought this is pretty much what you might expect if mainly town driving. I do a lot of short trips (5 miles out, 5 miles back) but almost all on uncongested roads with a few longer runs and I'm getting 38-39mpg. My low fuel warning light comes on with a nominal 70 miles left in the tank and at that time my average fill has been 46 litres covering 390 miles. If you are getting an average 34mpg then based on my car the fuel warning light would come on at around 350 miles, not far off your original post of 200 miles+100 miles, particularly if you have a bit more than I do in "reserve"? (The nominal 70 miles "reserve" is consistent with your figure of a 55 litre tank - 390+70=460, divide by 38.5mpg gives 12 gallons or 55 litres, in round figures).

 

Apart from the DPF issue (and not to be lightly dismissed if you do mainly town driving) for short trips are you sure the diesel will improve the mpg as much as you are hoping? I had the same dilemma before I ordered my Yeti being not keen to go back to petrol after 20 years of diesels but without exception all the advice (dealers, Skoda UK, this forum) was for my mileage and use petrol was the right choice and I don't regret it - for low mileage/short trip drivers the difference in mpg isn't a big financial difference over a year put in the context of all the other motoring costs and I believe (but haven't checked) that there is a premium on the price of diesels against the petrol equivalent at purchase.

Mine goes from half-full to warning light on very quickly (about 100 miles).  The warning light comes on at a notional 70 miles to go, but this is quite pessimistic, and I can often do 70 miles before it's telling me the range is only 30 miles.  I usually fill up at between 30-20 miles to go, but the amount I get into the tank indicates there is still quite a bit left.   I usually get over 400 to the tank that way.  My Maxidot is 2% optimistic.

 

In my previous car (also VAG), the warning light came on at 30 miles.  I don't know why the Yeti low fuel warning light comes on so early.
