Whirring, hissing and kangarooing: (

Featured Replies

Hi got a TDI 1.9 mk1 110bhp.

Getting occasional whirring noise and mild kangarooing when accelerating mainly in 2nd and 3rd at around 2000 revs.

It doesn't do it a the time, mainly after 5 mins into my journey and it only lasts a few seconds.

There is also some hissing and occasional loss of power.

Took it to my garage today (who are family friends) and they said they couldn't find any obvious faults but their best guess is the turbo may be on the way out. They are taking it back in next week to test it more thouroughly.

Anyone had any similar issues?

I'll get the ball rolling... the smart people might then take it up..

Does it happen only following a cold start, or does it do it regardless of engine temp?

Hi Mac. Thanks for the reply and I apologise for not getting back sooner (kind of gave up!)

Yes it does tend to be when the engine is getting up to temperature, usually 5 mins into a journey. Mainly 2nd and 3rd accelerating. Seems to do it more when travelling up hill.

It has been back to my local garage today. They have stripped down some of the engine and plugged it in to ECU but nothing came up. Unfortunately it didn't misbehave for them, however that identified and replaced a perished vacuum hose which we thought would do the trick. Unfortunately on the way home it did it again.

The only thing I can use to describe the noise is like a dog barking in the distance and the car kangaroo's slightly like as if I'm pressing the clutch in and out slightly.

I'm thinking about getting it into a main dealer as I don't know what else to do!?!?!?

i occasionally have a similar issue with one of our ford connect work vans. uphill, boot in accelerating, when engine isnt quite hot and will feel like the clutch is springing a little, or traction control is cutting the power slightly...

no fault code means nothing though, dozens of problems show no ecu error.

never get it with my Octy though...

anybody want to have a go?

Thanks Mac. I will try to remember to turn traction off before I set out in the morning and see if that makes a difference. Will post result.

cant hurt to try....

dont be surprised if its no benefit though..

Where are all the clever people that are better at diagnosing this sorta thing gone?!!!

Yeah, made no difference. I will try to record the noise and post on here.
