MKII TDI VRS Buying advice?

Featured Replies

Hi guys after a few years without my fabia I'm now wanting to get another skoda.

I am looking for a decent Octavia VRS TDI for under 10k with as low milage as possible, ideally under 40k.

Can anyone give me any pointers on key things to look out for?

After looking around i see cam belts need changing every4 years.

Would anyone be able to advise on realistic MPG?

Timing belt on a CR TDi may be a greater interval than the PD TDi so I would aim for a 2009 onwards face lift model. Should be possible to fine one within your mileage and price range. I would also be prepared to travel to find the right car spending that much personally.

I just sold my 11 plate at 23K on it, mpg remapped to 205bhp I got 49-53 on normal driving and best achieved was 64 on a 110 miles run of mixed roads trying my best to see what it would get. That's real world MPG which my maxidot also displayed always within a tenth of an MPG accurately (some vary up or down from real world).

Look for the normal things you'd check on any car and in addition due to my own experiences and that of a slowly growing number on here dash lights partially illuminating seems to be a new up and coming fault. I would put a jacket over dash to make it as dark as possible and make sure all are 100% out when they should be with lights in all 3 positions of switch.

Uneven wear on tyres is a good one to look for (search saw toothing) on the forum. Also spare wheel well and boot for any dampness can be caused by rear washer pipe leak (a great negotiating point on a private sale, no drama to sort).

Desirable options to look out for are:

Maxidot (onboard computer between dials on dash pod) Looks far better and gives more control over some settings and convenience options.

Spare wheel (stock they came with a pump and can of gunk)

Any other options are just what your looking for yourself from a car.

If a PD TDi look carefully on the forum for injector recall and DPF issues and educate yourself on what your wanting to see, personally I would opt for a CR TDi for these reasons where possible.

Thanks Fubar.

Yes I am willing travel to find the right one and also in no major rush.

Thanks for the asvice on the saw too thing in have done some reading up and will look out for it.

I would ideally like a later cr version but depends on price and condition really, if I find a decent pd for a bit cheaper I may be tempted.

I'm going to keep an eye out, there doesn't seem a great deal out there at the moment that suit my requirements.

make sure it's Yellow, there the Fastest

Happy car hunting!
