How do I make my car look less, erm, ugly...

Featured Replies

I can't see from the pic, but have you de-tangoed the indicators yet? If not, I'd suggest fitting Phillips Silver Vision bulbs.

  • Actually it needs a gallon of petrol and a match. But I like it exactly because it's a bit odd and you've told me it has a funky name.   So I say to the OP, revel in the uniqueness. Anyone can buy

  • Maybe a pic of your actual car would help, seems like people keep suggesting things your car already has.

Thanks - Will take a look! (I'm not sure!)

Just as well, you've now saved ~£200 + the cost of getting it sprayed :D

This is the difference it makes:

You've been de-tangod/

£200? Who the hell would pay that. I just sold mine for £95 brand new in the original box and some brand new fog lights as well.

Yeah I know but unfortunately that's the cost now. None in the UK AFAIK, price is now ~£163 + VAT + shipping from Germany. The one I got was brand new boxed for £50.

So when I said I didn't like it I was talking about the one in the eBay link. Which I guess isn't actually the one you're talking about!

No, I was talking about the one that was in this link, which does look nice IMO.

Jobs for free or cheap:

Debadge (free)

LaminX headlights (£10)

Yellow fogs (if you have fogs) (£5)

Gloss black front grill (£20)

Colour code exterior handles (if not already done) (£20-40)

Bit more expensive:

Lower it 30mm on springs (new £150-£200, used £50-£100)

Light smoke tints on rear 3 windows (£100)

Alloys & tyres (£200-£300)

For fear of getting shot down in flames... why not just enjoy it as it is? If it were me, I'd probably look to swap the old comfort wheel trims for some genuine ones that look a little better, and that's it. (The old comfort ones are horrid!). Fitting a Connects2 so that you can listen to music off your phone/mp3 player is worthwhile also.

Although some mods can look good, on a car like that, you may be in danger of ending up with a McDonalds handbrake-turn-mobile... and nobody wants that especially if mods are half-arsed due to budget constraints  :giggle:

Think of it this way as well. £100 is almost two tanks of fuel (at prices around here it is, anyway). How far could you drive on that? The money you'd save not tinting windows/lowering etc could pay for a trip somewhere nice or 25 pints of beer at London prices. I know which I'd rather have.

I think I'm with you on this largely. It's not worth tying up a stack of cash on the old beast! I think I'll buy a new set of alloys and keep the old ones too, that way I have £x tied up in the wheels - but can release it easily as and when required... Some of the Fabias on here look amazing, but it is what it is - I'm cool with that.

Thanks for everyone for their suggestions though - I may do some of them as and when things need replacing (i.e. the bulb thing when I need new bulbs etc...)

get a set of the elegance alloys they shouldn't break the bank, remove the side plastics, give it a hell of a wax, devontopia would be the call for that :P and get some carbon fibre wrapping on the interior plastics and outer grill (been reading dark hero's diary so sue me ;))

I'm struggling to find any alloys and tyres at good prices except for huge ones 17/18 inch! If anyone knows anyone or anywhere I can get some 15/16s with tyres ready to go I'll be appreciative! Thanks.

Have you tried http://www.skospares.com/ ?

You'll probably need to get tyres whatever wheels you pick up. If the budget's that tight, maybe you're best leaving it for now? Standard wheels with decent tyres should perform better than alloys with ditchfinders.

Nah, I'll get them as soon as some come up - the budget won't improve because I'm only up for spending the same or a bit more as I would on brand new tyres; it's more of a 'what I am prepared to spend' scenario than a cashflow one.

I'm sure someone at some point will be upgrading perfectly decent alloys and tyres for bigger ones (in fact I've seen some good ones on ebay - just not in the right size!)

If I can't find any then I'll just stick some new tyres on the 14" wheels it's running...

Guess I just need to be patient!

Am the same as u wanting alloys for my sdi but cash is tried up else where and I will just keep looks don't want to spend £££ I like your fabia all I would do is black the inner head lights done mine yesterday looks a lot better de chrome the grill an remove black strips of doors and colour code other bits alloys and then save up for coil overs

What sort of thing you looking for? May be that I see something suitable, for example I think I saw some 15" tyres in Essex yesterday that were pretty much new?

I'd be perfectly happy with some big 16" steelies and nice tyres, but pretty flexible!

Set of octy 17" spiders with low pro tyres..

Lower it...

Fabia vrs kit..

Tinted lights..

Slight tint on the windows..

And if anyone asks its a vrs with a private plate :P

Anything really just as long as they have good meat on the tyres

FYI, Seat Ibiza MkIV, Polo 9n and 9n3 wheels will also fit fine IIRC.

This looks OK.
