SE flashing red coolant light!

Featured Replies

Hi guys'll picked up my new SE Fabia yesterday and I noticed the red coolant light started flashing on the M5 during the drive home!

I checked the levels today and all is good,no leaks or drips.

Any ideas what it could be? Coolant temp sensor?

Cheers

Mark

Coolant level sensor in the header tank, common problem. around £10 for a new header tank. You can check this by removing the black sensor connector from the header tank and bridge the connections with something (I used a fuse) and see if the light goes out. If it does then that's your problem.

Hope this helps.

I'll have a nosy at it when I get a chance! ;-)

Yeah it will be sensor in tank, ive just replaced mine!

Mine does this about 3 times a year.. lol The level is always ok though.

Yes, common problem.

Hi to anyone reading this in the future. I had the same issue with the coolant red light flashing on my skoda fabia but not reporting any fault codes on my diagnostic tool.

I suspected it reported low coolant level and looking at the coolant expansion tank it look a bit worst for wear (i.e being a bit mucky inside the tank but coolant colour was good). There is a sensor in the coolant expansion tank that detects the coolant level and it unserviceable so you must change the complete coolant expansion tank.

I have replaced the coolant expansion tank (took me 5 mins) and the coolant light never flashed again. So before you consider changing coolant temperature sensor or thermostat try this first as this is the low cost solution you can try.

As BossFox mentioned it is indeed a common problem for skodas and VWs since they use the same coolant expansion tank
