Roof Rack for Hatchback - Thule, Genuine or Alternative?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Been contemplating buying genuine Roof racks for my 12 plate hatch, I've seen Genuine ones on ebay for £140 and the same for Thule. Just wondering what people would recommend from experience, which would be better and are there any as good alternatives for the same price or less (less is gooood :)).

Thanks

Alan

IIRC the genuine one is made by Thule, I use one on mine for bikes and its been faultless

Last two cars I've fitted Thule. Never considered OEM.

Love the Thule product, not cheap but very good.

If buying used Try to check the fitting feet as they clamp the body and roof on the hatch, I'm paranoid about it scratching.

I second the Thule option. Used them on my 3 cars & have been faultless for roofboxes & Bikes racks. I haven't upgraded to whispbars yet but square do the job fine. However bars on with no roof box/bike can create a lot of wind noise above 55 mph, not sure if whispbars eliminates this? Maybe someone could let me know.Thule seems solid & well made plus they normally are lockable too so peace of mind if your leaving them on for a while on your hols.

I've got thule aero bars on my petrol vrs and there's hardly any wind noise upto 80mph. Not really noticed any difference in fuel economy either

Whispbars are virtually silent. Check the video on the link I posted.

They don't look like a fancy Thule product maybe just the bottom end? I'm looking to spend no more than this as I can get the OEM ones for same price, so the whisp are out :(. OEM looking like the safest option, even better if made by Thule....

Hmmmm, damn you all having different opinions haha

OEM is a nicer set of bars than that, go to the 5th page on my build thread (link in my sig) to have a look at them
