Well I just couldn't live without a Subaru in my life. So after lasting a full 6 weeks without one I have gone and bought another. I have had 2 previous Subarus - all modern newage versions, so I thought it was time to go for a classic. I bought a 1998 Japanese import Type R with a forged 2.1 stroker engine. It will form the basis of a very good car once I am finished with it. But I will be keeping it as a weekend toy only as I am over the moon with my Fabia VRS SE as my daily driver. I haven't neglected my Fabia either. I have powdercoated the alloys in anthracite, fitted AP shocks & lowering springs, new front top mounts & bearings, rear bump stops, LCR front splitter, full set of front & rear Powerflex polybushes, waiting on my Whiteline RARB to arrive, EGR delete kit, Team Heko wind deflectors, LED sidelights and have just ordered all the bits to do the elephant mod. Also have an R8 oil cap & a Porsche 911 cooler cap.

And managed to give the Fabia's engine bay a wee clean too

You did all that work on the black one to sell it and buy another 6 weeks later? :)

I like your style.

I quite fancy this, but can't justify it with my R32 Skyline GT-R.

Jap spec, like a UK P1 but a little bit better.

Bargain for the price IMO.

Yes mate - I have issues   - I just love Subarus and love modifying cars

That P1 is indeed a bargain. I also know of a friend of a friend who is selling his fully forged 2.1 UK P1 - It has 50,000 miles on the clock and has all the toys and upgrades. He had it up for £7,500 and has now reduced it to £5,900 - Link here if you have Facebook - He is in Wickford, Essex

Nice, I'm a subaru man too, I had a classic and a bug-eye sti, I'm also suffering withdrawal after 2 and a half months

  I know mate - it is a terrible feeling! Getting the Fabia VRS as a daily and a Subaru for the weekend run outs with the lads in the Subaru club was a wise decision. I wish I had have done it 2 years ago though instead of just now.

Well the Type R has had some serious modifications and it is getting somewhere close to how I want it. Main focus for me was the engine bay

Before:

After

Although I put it into the paintshop to get the bodykit refurbed, repainted, new black grilles  fitted & fitted correctly as it was in a bit of a state. Much better now:

Also stripped the wheels back with Bilberry, Tardis & IronX, followed by a good wash & hand dry and then a coat of Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour - awesome stuff

Need to finish off the interior, engine bay & glass before The Northern Big One on Sunday at Light Water Valley - Subaru event with all proceeds to charity. There will be 70 Subarus from my club North East Subaru Forum convoying down the A1 from Newcastle to Ripon - so if you are travelling A1 South from 08.00am on Sunday 29th June....GET OUT OF THE WAY

I was lucky enough to be approached by a photographer friend of mine and asked if I would let him do a photo shoot with my car and one of his models - of course I couldn't say no

Awesome photos mate. Stunning model too :)

She was indeed - and even better looking in the flesh believe it or not. Lovely personality and down to earth - unfortunately I had to drive her to the photo shoot and back as there was no room in photographers car with all the lighting....poor me!

Gorgeous Subaru's there! I want one myself, but also want to keep my Fabia. One question, what do you use to clean your engine bays? they're always sooooooooo clean :)

Cheers mate. I warm up the engine gently for 5 minutes. Then I give the bay a soak with a garden hose, not a pressure washer. If you have an air filter cover it with a plastic bag and any exposed electrics. Then I use either Meguiars Engine Clean or Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner and spray the whole bay down. Then I use a soft bristle brush to agitate the cleaner on the whole bay, then rinse with the garden hose again. Use some old microfibres to mop up the excess water and any that is lying in crevices, etc. Then I would either spray the bay with Meguiars Engine Dress and wipe down with a microfibre or I would spray some Areospace 303 Protectant over the whole bay and close the bonnet and leave overnight. You can also massage in the Aerospace 303 and buff off. Alternatively use Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner and spray on and buff off. For any very stubborn oil & grease that the cleaners won't remove I spray some standard brake & clutch cleaner directly on to a microfibre cloth and then wipe the stubborn oil/grease off with the microfibre. Hope this helps

Thanks Marietto, wow that sounds a lot of work, but I fancy giving it a go :-)

The thing is mate depending on how dirty the engine bay is you will probably need a couple of cleans to get it done properly. The Subaru engine bays are a pain in the backside because they are so cramped being a boxer engine. If you lived close to Newcastle upon Tyne mate I would give you a hand doing it - good luck and make sure you take a before & after photo. Is it your Skoda you are doing or another make of car? I did my Fabia engine bay and it was a piece of cake. Much easier than any Subaru

Thanks for the kind offer, unfortunately I'm from near Leeds otherwise I would snap your hand off. It's my Fabia that I wanted to give a good clean, but also any vehicles I own in the future.

Thanks for your continued advice. I will before and after shot it for you... Just need to buy those products you mentioned asap, have you had any experience with the cheaper brands? ie Gunk, Swarfega Jizer degreaser, Autoglym engine degreaser.
