First impressions of FL 170 'Elegance DSG

Don't give the guy a hard time Johann, he might think the same about caravans!

(I was a keen caravanner from age 21 to 60 so nothing personal intended ).

I think his car looks OK with or without the Black B pillars, and has been said many times before, everyone's tastes differs.

I hate to admit it, but I stuck VRs badges front and back on my Yeti, but soon removed them as they did look a bit naff.

Sorry yes...  each to their own.  But it just irks me when people don't get basic car design.   :giggle:   But as you say, each to their own.

I'll bet you didn't! I can't imagine they'd be impressed by buying and fitting badges to a brand new car to make random people think it's faster than it is. Sorry, it's just not a mindset I can grasp. :D

If anything I do the opposite.

The owner of the last Passat I bought had changed from the standard PD130 badge of TDI (silver T / red DI)  to an all-red TDI badge off some other higher power model.

I removed it and replaced it with an all-silver TDI badge.

I prefer "all go, no show" to "all show, no go"

Less attention received that way, and more opportunity for surprising people (in the "right" way) should the desire arise....

I went for the same colour combination and wheels - I feel the black and white combination with those striking wheels really work well - you have made excellent choice

The jury is out on the B pillar covers - I tend to agree that the white pillars look better. How does the partition net fit?  could you take some photos to show how it is fitted to roof. I am going to change the dash trim, on my Yeti - going to experiment with carbon fibre or brushed ally vinyl wrap, I have used this material quite a lot in the past - with a little care and patience you can get excellent results.

I will be picking up the Yeti this Friday - will take some photos of the dash trim when I sort it out - enjoy your Yeti.

At least he hasn't fitted a bonnet bra, yet!

@g6rzu - no bonnet bra will be going anywhere near my Yeti!

@ketchka - I'll be honest - I've not fitted it yet - it's still rolled up in the bag under the boot floor. I did take it out and look at it and it has two metal prongs which fit into the slots in the roof, and two straps which attach to the lashing points. It can be fitted behind the front or rear seats.

@anyone saying it's "all-show-no-go" - I beg to differ... I took it over the snake pass this afternoon. It left pretty much everything for dead. OK it wasn;'t cornering as well as a hot hatch, but the slug of torque really did make it a fun trip and plenty of overtakes. That's before I remap it or do anything else performance related to it....

I think that's a pretty judgemental thing to say... You don't know me... you have never met me... you have no idea what my thoughts and opinions are...

I do "get" the design. I have seen plenty of Yeti's where I think the colour flow down those pillars looks fab. If I'd gone for Shark Blue (which I very nearly chose) I would have kept the roof body colour and not attached any covers to the pillars.

But I chose Candy white with a black roof, and in that particular combo, to me, it just doesn't look right with the white pillars. It looks like someone forgot to paint them. It just doesn't fit when the roof is black and so are all the other pillars, and the rest of the car is SUCH an opposing colour. This is just my opinion.

What I have done is not permanent - the covers can be removed with a heat gun in about 10 minutes at any point (as can the badges).

My opinion may change in time - but for now, every time I compare the two photos in this thread, I keep coming down on the side of thinking the black pillars look better.

Have to agree with others re the black B pillar - it just looses the main design element of the 'floating' roof design. Best colour and best alloys imo - nice to see you went for the alcantara seats also instead of the plastic ones (I refuse to refer to them as 'leather' seats!) They will soften up a little over time and you'll feel you are in them rather than on then a little more in the future. Nice to see you specced the Panoramic roof too - best option and beneficial everyday. :) And why oh why do Skoda mess with the interior trim elements at FL time - the gold on this, the awful triangular pattern on the Octy VRS mk2 FL.... yuk.

Wasn't specifically referring to your car, just the general idea of "up-badging". I myself am looking for a CR170 and am well aware of the level of performance :)

Damn you remembered - hoping to keep that quite.

That item lasted just a day as well. It was in my early "dark period" of Yeti ownership.

Had no trouble selling though to another member on here who shall remain nameless!

Apologies...  As I said each to their own.  I've said many times on here were I to get another Yeti it will definitely be white with Matterhorns like yours.

137699.

I think the car looks great, even the "B" pillar covers in black.

I ordered an L&K 170 in January to replace my current Candy White 170 Elegance and was most disappointed when I discovered that I could not have a Black roof in conjunction with the Sunroof.

Not so sure about the VRS badges.

each to their own

I've noticed that expression's getting used a lot on here lately. It's kind of in the same class as "I'm not being funny but..."

I think you should just state your opinion and that's that - As long as you're not being needlessly unpleasant to someone, you really don't need to include this phrase or one of the similarly irksome, obvious and patronising variants.

But hey, that's just my opinion and you're entitled to yours, everyone's taste differs, the world would be a boring place if we all thought the same thing, each to their own and that. ;)

Think I'm going to go the other way and de badge ours this weekend. (not the main Skoda badge) just the letters.

I really like the two tone white and black contrast (especially the door pillar covers), SWMBO likes the trim inside but like most I think it is awful what were Škoda thinking of?

vRS badges on a Yeti though.... really? it cheapens the car IMO

(not to mention the vRS is actually a lower spec car than an Elegance - Yeti)

Tell that to BossFox :D

I did that to mine from almost new back in'10

As we all know Richard is borderline certifiable anyway  :giggle:

I have no issues with anyone increasing the power to that of a vRS (and beyond) but why put a lower spec badge on the car?

Either keep it std or de-badge it, the only exemption I can live with would be to change the TDi  badge to TDi if it was remapped to a minimum of the power levels where the badge would be all red (on a VW / Audi).

Yeah, extra badges, particularly from higher up the 'sports' range, I've never understood, if it isn't one then why pretend it is or try to create one. Debadging is a different matter - I don't tend to do it myself can can see how a decluttered, clean looking boot is appealing. :) I used to know someone with a 240bhp octy mk1 4x4 turbo hatch. He put a 1.4 mpi badge on the back and the looks he'd get when people eventually got past (after he pulled in) were absolutely priceless! :)

I like stealth cars. Turn up at a set of lights and leave everyone for dead. No bling, no fuss.

We used to call them "Street Sleepers".

I debadged mine for 2 reasons. Stealth. (Could be mistaken for a 1.2tsi).

Clean lines. I was unable to order it debadged, unlike a previous BMW I owned.

When cleaning the car my sponge caught some of the letters and twisted them.

Okay, that's 3

I'm more of a debadge guy not a rebadge guy - I can't help thinking that the badges were originally for the salesmen to be able to distinguish the product on their forecourts. It's always fun to see a 518 badge on an M5, but if you want a vRS Yeti, then the best way to get one is to pester Skoda and see what they can produce: a 225 1.8T with the KO4, some Bilsteins lowered 15mm, and some really great (Recaro?) seats and unique rims would be a good start.

Or just buy Yeti-Mans slightly modded 1.8 tsi (330) :D

Yep - that would work!

Paddleshift wheel arrived today - still waiting on the silver dash trims.

Aiming toi get the wheel fitted in the next 2 weeks - and also now considering the silver side skirt panels - as a next mod.
