Alloy Cleaning...

Featured Replies

Good Morning.

In the past I have only ever cleaned my alloys with soap and water...then sealed them.

I have now got myself some `Bilberry Wheel Cleaner` and some `Iron X`

Unfortunately I am a little unsure how to best use them...

1. Should the dirty alloys be dry or rinsed off before the `Bilberry` is applied?

2. Will the `Bilberry` have any adverse effect on the brake callipers or the wheel weights?

3. Once clean, is there any point in then giving them a dose of `Iron X`?

3. If so, with the `Iron X` have any adverse effect on the brake callipers or the wheel weights?

Many thanks.

Mike.

1. My preference would be a dry wheel as it will allow the Bilberry to cling and work it's magic, leave to dwell agitate with a good wheel brush and PW rinse. Adjust dilution to suit the job.

2. Shouldn't do in my experience

3. Yes absolutely but go Bilberry first so that the Iron-X is only working on the ingrained/embedded iron, otherwise it's wasteful and the chemical reaction will be spent up on the surface brake dust which you could have removed with Bilberry.

3(part 2 ;) ) . My experience again is that it shouldn't do.

take care Iron Removers all smell like ass.

What he said Mike

+1 again - I use autosmart "smart wheels" but it does the same thing really.  The rest of the steps are the same as what I do.  On really bad wheels, tardis can also assist with tar spots the wheel cleaner doesn't quite shift. :)
