The Dales have reinstated love for my vRS

Featured Replies

A trip to Leeds and the Yorskshire Dales has prompted some love for the vRS this weekend. Its been my first long road trip in the car since i bought it nearly 2 years ago!! I racked up 500 very easy miles in 3 days and loved every minute (apart from the M1's 35 miles of bloody average speed!!).

We spent the day exploring the Dales, which i now love, and then topped it off with a drive on the Buttertubs Pass between Hawes and Ingleton. It was amazing!! I was so surprised with how the car turned from economical motorway muncher into B road basher. I was especially surprised with how it gripped even when standard and how its uncanny ability to overtake quickly and get ahead of the odd sunday driver before the next corner made the experience even more fun!!

What makes it better is that i very nearly did all this (driving 180 miles from Hertfordshire to leeds, 130 miles around the dales and then the drive home) on just 1 45 litre tank, even when cruising between 75 and 80 all the way. Maybe i will keep it for another few years then.

A road trip always rekindles the love for a decent motor. Got anymore pics?

Nice :) Looks lovely.

I'm hoping to go up to Scotland for a little driving break in my car

with the hope I'll fall in love with it again. It's going in for a service, cambelt

waterpump, MOTetc in preparation tomorrow.

Hope to make the trip in June

Oh and please please please get rid of that green cotton filter.

If it hasn't already started to disintegrate it's probably only a matter

of time before it does.

Why do you have your Fogs on in the Photo

Don't look Foggy

The lights are not on Andy :giggle:

Trott's of to Specsavers

I've got any amount of crackin' roads right on my doorstep. I think I sometimes take them for granted, until I visit the city.

Me too, I'm on the edge of Somerset. Smashing roads here but I like the

scenery better when it's mountainous.

You will love Scotland Garry :) I went a couple of years ago. Inverness to Oban passing Loch Ness was fantastic.

The isle of mull was brilliant, although not really car friendly (single lane roads all across the island)

I did find the best beach ever though, white sands and crystal ocean. Didn't get to stay too long though. A day trip wasn't long enough

OEM is fine to be honest but I had a K and N in mine for 4 years and it

looked clean as a whistle with no rusting when I took it out and sold it on...

No MAF issues either, that only really happens if you drown the bloody

thing in oil.

That said, on a public forum I can really only recommend OEM

as your results may differ with the K and N and I'd hate for that to be

because I suggested one.

Just to add balance, I think it's only fair to also say

I currently have a K and N panel filter in my S3.

Make your own mind up mate, but there's pics on here of broken up and

rusted green cotton filters so at least just have a look and make sure its ok.

Can't say I've ever seen a 'K and N filter failure' thread on here, certainly

not in the forums I frequent.

If there are any signs of rust or breakage/missing bits on the green filter

whip it out, make sure there's no loose debris in the box and then, at least

in the short term whop a paper one in there.

Something like this Gary, Glencoe is just stunning.

^^^

Yeah that's more like it.

Maybe next year do the same trip on me motorbike I'll have

by then. That would be cool.

It is funny how a certain piece of road can make you appreciate a vehicle.

There's a country lane near city limits in Epping that used to misbehave

on when I was a young grr. And every time I have cause to use it I'm praying to the road

gods that I'll have a free run along it and not catch anybody up so I can spank it a bit.

Ahh ok thanks! I'll check it soon and bare that in mind!
