Turbo Whine or Boost Leak Pics

Featured Replies

Morning Gents,

Over the last few weeks there has been a whine when accelerating.

I thought it might be the turbo as it is on 90k now.. but I had my doubts as boost was still strong and no siren or smoke.

After reading threads on boost leaks - I went under the bonnet this morning before work and took the pictures below.

This i presume is what a boost leak looks like?

Volksmaster in Oldham have quoted me £154 fitted for new OEM parts.

Any one in the Manchester area can help get it sorted cheaper would be a massive help.

Cheers in advance

Cable ties round the end of each pipe and then cable tie them both together to pull the fittings tight together.

That's what I would consider a very very minor leak you have.  When you get a proper boost leak from the crappy sub standard feeble fittings blowing off you'll know about it.

Holy ****.. looks nice and neat  :giggle:

What about some jubilee clips? i.e open them up.. fit around the pipe then tighten up?

I saw this screw picture before.. but couldn't understand how it works

So I screw into where i have put the arrow above?

Whats at the other side of the pipe for it to grip to? - It doesnt make sense in my head

take the clip and fitting off and you'll understand.

OK. The pic you have is illustrating the top connection.

My pic with the arrow is the bottom one.

You have any pics showing that one?

Doesn't make any difference, you'd attach the cable ties the same way.

No but it's exactly the same.

On your picture where you've arrowed is not where you'd fix it together.

On the picture, you can see the plastic connector with the ribs around the edge, underneath is a metal collar of the pipe it connects to.

If you take the pipes apart you'll see how it works.

taken apart. both of the connections have movement. rubbish design

They really are a crap design. Once the lugs start to bend, they will never go back properly, and will always open up under pressure (boost).

Exactly why I stopped mine ever moving again  :)

I'm hardpiping mine as soon as I get the chance.

I would like to get mine done properly but when I consider I need to buy a clutch also and it alls starts to rack up and I question why I ever bought the bloody thing.

Like I said above, a company near myself have quoted £155 to replace all the pipes and fit with new.

Went 6 years hassle free motoring with a petrol with none of this turbo, boost pipe, clutch rubbish

I doubt for £155 they'll replace all the pipes....... They're over £250 for all new pipes from skoda/VAG. I'd replace all the seals at around £35 for the set and cable tie them.

And the pic you've put up is simply oil seeping through the seal in the joint due to the metal couplings being worn. Oil in the turbo system of a diesel that is under pressure will tend to seep slightly, I'd not be worried about what you see or have found myself.
