Personal Car Leasing

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I hope your all well.

Has anyone on here got or had any experience leasing a car (not pcp - or deals through main dealers) on a personal scheme?

I can imagine some people may lease their company cars - im after any recomendations/companys thats lease privately.

Whats the situation with damage at the end of the term - as careful as anyone can be its near impossible to avoid the odd stonechip or careless sod who opens their door onto yours.....gggrrrrr?

For someone that likes something new every 2 or 3 years and isnt to worried about "never owning" it, it must be a reasonable idea?

Kindest Regards

I know a few who do it. It's never sounded particularity cheap to me.

Merc seem to do some of the best deals.

My mileage is too high but I have seen an E220 CDI saloon for £270 at 10k a year. Which I suppose is cheap for a £30k car.

Peugeot (Sorry to swear)  have the "Just Add Fuel"  scheme, reasonably cheap and piece of mind for someone who has to have a working car, a couple of neighbours have these and it does seem worthwhile.

PCP does mean Personal Contract Plan so is kind of a leaseplan.

You do need to have a securish job for these type off PCP's and you need to read the contract carefully regarding max mileage, final payments, admin charges, service costs and what's considered cosmetic wear.

I've always bought a car outright and won't change till I'm old and decrepid and can't do anything myself service/repair wise.

Forgot to add that it does include RoadTax and Insurance on the Just add fuel scheme.

Thanks for your reply guys.

My Vrs is on PCP....more than happy with it, cracking car and don't mind having finance.

Just wandering what else is achievable on the same budget and as Aspman says seems to be some good deals on Mercs etc through lease companies....

I had 2 octavias through lex on a personal lease.

Just make sure to over estimate mileage, as if you do over they'll stop maintenance cover plus charge per mile.  When I increased they doubled the monthly figure so I bought the car from them.

Better Idea may be to work out PCP cost + putting say £50/month away.  May work out cheaper than leasing.  Plus as you dont own the car, you cant mod it or take out of the UK or to Ireland without written approval.

The only problem with that scheme is that you are left with the unpleasant fact that you'd have to drive a Peugeot.

Some friends of ours had a 56 Peugeot 206 and a V-reg Octavia. They only needed one car, so which one did they get rid of?

Yup, the Peugeot.

Mmmmmm...I have to say im def not a Peugeot fan!

Mrs had a 308 Hdi Sport before she brought the FL Octy vrs tdi, The Pug was on an 09 and had only done 38000 when we got rid, nothing but trouble and never felt well built. Good on fuel and gave a reasonable ride but thats about it....handling was awful imo...couldnt ever really feel what the front wheels were doing (appreciate quite different from a Vrs but even so...)

Now shes got a Skoda of her own, theres no going back. She does like the new Honda Crv but other than that itd be another Octavia or Yeti.

Yes, I know what Pugs are like these days, however the people I know that have Just add Fuel scheme know no better, just a means of getting around reliably without service and repair bills.  One of them did comment after a drive in my A3 (took him to the dealer to collect his 308 after the central locking was repaired)  that it feels a whole lot better screwed together than their 6 month old 308, my A3 is 8 years old now :giggle:
