wheel spacers affecting TCS\XDS?

Featured Replies

Wondered what people's thoughts are on this.

People say that putting the incorrect sized tyres on will make the TCS play up and give incorrect speedo readouts. Would the same apply when putting wheel spacers on? Will it make the XDS change its characteristics as the radius from the inner to outer wheel will be larger?

incorrect tyres will throw out the speedo, so it's best to stay within 2.5% of stock size. Speedos are pretty inaccurate anyway...

I wouldn't worry about spacers, save that you might need longer bolts to match. If they're more than just 3-5mm shims, ie 10mm or above, they should be properly machined and hubcentric.

They may cause a problem,

.................................................................but I am not noticing it yet :D

and the car has (very safely) been put in situations where I think I would have noticed

I hit a 'normous dip in the road last night at too much chat and my tyres 'just' grazed the arch, this is my only reportable issue with mine and Iam 90% sure that it was down to my incompetence and I am starting to think my rear shocks aren't what they once were.

HI sparkly did you fit spacers after all ....what size did you go for.?

Check the build thread chief!

I'll keep out of your way on the track sparkly ;)

Will get the shocks sorted by then, and try not to throw any wheels at you :D

Besides I'll be nowhere near you, you have experience and one of those fancy new CTHE engines on your side. I have road tyres dodgy suspension and a lot more miles on the clock.

to be fair the RSR's may make the difference if its dry, and the yellowstuff (900C) pads :)

but then castle coombe still scares me a bit... I got more than 125mph on the straight..... then you get quarry, a left/right... and the left you can take really quick.... but if you do, you wont make the right! lol.... (barriers....)

I'm sure we will have fun ;)
