I'm fed-up  Don't like cars anymore!!! :bike:

Don't know why I have such bad luck with tyres, but they've been the bain of my life for the last 9 months!! Some of it is to do with who I'm buying them off - the big 'national' companies or folk who do a 'quick fit' and don't give a **** about workmanship and then s****** at you because the car vibrates like hell at 90mph. How am I meant to enjoy track nights when that happens!

I've also had passengers sitting in the back complaining of numbed buttocks because the car vibrates that much!

It all started back just before winter. The Michelon tyres that come with the car still had a few mm tread, but I wanted the two fronts changed before the bad weather come. The car vibrated shaking the arms off me and started pulling to the left even although they apparently done the tracking. It took another three visits and them swapping the front and rear tyres, and rebalancing before they finally got it right.

So now my new grippy Goodyear Eagle F1s are on the back two, and I'm back with the factory Michelons on the front.

Still loads of tread on the Michelens but I wanted them changed for Goodyears - went somewhere else got them fitted - and there were no pulling or vibrations after. Well impressed....almost! I asked them to put the 2 Michelons in the boot for future use (seeing as there was loads of tread), but they didn't and by the time I realised I was too far away. A few days later I done the 312mm brake conversion..and could I get the two front wheels off...haha..no. The guy refitting the wheels had stuck his airgun on full torque setting I reckon. Had to invent a new metre long hybrid tool and stamp on to loosen the bolts. Not a major problem just annoying to think I was lucky it wasn't on a hard shoulder. The person that fitted the wheels should really have known better (main dealer) but I won't name and shame in this case.

All went well for a few months with my non-vibrating really grippy Goodyear F1s.

...until - I rub a kerb while parking (okay my fault), nip into the chippy and come out to a flat tyre. Self inflicted so only felt a little bit bad. Planning to change the tyre in tomorrow so stick the spare on, goes home and polishes car. Sitting admiring the gleem and look down to the good front tyre, its sitting with a huge bubblegum style bulge coming out it. So thats two new tyres I'm needing. Bubblegum tryre has been sent back to Goodyear for inspection as I beleive its faulty - but also wonder now if the other front tyre was like this before I rubbed the kerb - I thought it punctured a bit easy considering it has rim protectors.

Thought it would be a good time to check the other tyres, found a rear with a small self-tapping screw sticking in it...bugger!!

Off to the tyre fitter - I thought it would be easy enough to find someone with 205/45/16s in stock in a reasonably large town. Nup, only one company stocks them and its a big nationwide company who probably have some sort of sponsorship deal with Avon ZZ3 tyres! They must be a really good tyre though because he tells me "all the Suburu owners club guys put these tyres on" Get a GRIP tyre man - I aint driving no 4x4 subaru! Anyway - Left it with them to get the two fronts replaced. They then tell me the small screw is a 8mm bolt and cannot be repaired, also needs a new trye. Okay fair enough, not a great fan of repairing tyres anyway - just wished I had asked to see that "8mm bolt"!!! :rubchin:

Three new tyres and guess what...car vibrating like something the missus hides in the underwear drawer! Also pulling off to the left again.

Just before going back to the place, I discover there is another screw in a rear tyre - at least this time it has the decency to stick itself into the oldest tyre (a goodyear). Back to the tyre place, and they tell be there is actually a screw and a nail sticking in the tyre - too close to the sidewall to fix. The balance was also out on one front and one rear wheel...how can this happen, at least he had the balls to admit it when they fitted them!? Tracking is also being checked out.

So I'm now the proud owner of four new Avon ZZ3 tyres. Preferred the Goodyears, but ho-hum.

Big Question...does it still vibrate and pull to the left....? We'll soon see.

Anyone else had major expensive woeful tyre tales??

I'll really need to start using the online tyre people - mytyres / blackcircles etc. Do they come well recommended? How long for delivery - say I needed a tyre fitted tomorrow and I ordered just now - would it happen?

Cheers

Ross

sorry to hear all that bad luck and poor workmanship. ive used 'blackcircle' before and they were spot on, delivered tyres in a few days, prices were great and they were so helpfull.

i too dont have much luck, i keep picking up screws and nails in my tyres, no doubt from my work car park :(

I've had four screws and a staple in the last twelve months and four new tyres.
