Catch up on Sky +

Featured Replies

Had a quick squint around for a thread on this but didn't find one....

I've been sent one of those little boxes that plugs into the +box which "should" connect wirelessly with my Orange Livebox router.  The +box is at one end of the house, the router, the other. I've put the router into pairing mode and entered the relevant code into the +box so it should pick up my router, but it's not doing. Option b is an ethernet cable between the +box and the router and doing away with the freebie from sky. I'd rather not do this if I can avoid it. I tried moving the router half way to a less convenient place but my pc won't pick up the wireless signal, so that won't work either. Any other suggestions ?

I have just has sky fitted and couldn't get it to connect wirelessly to my router so mine is hard wired not too bad fir me there only 6' apart. I do think some older routers won't connect wirelessly with sky equipment

My mate had the same problem with his talk talk router. Talk talk sent him a newer model of router and we managed to get it working after that. It just wouldn't detect the older router, when we were going through the set up we tried a few times and it would pick up the neighbours router but not his.

Is it a case of the type of connection on the router? WEP/WPA/WPA2?

Did you try connecting via WPS button if your router has this option?

I have the newer sky router (the white one with the pair button on the front) and my black sky+ box wifi adaptor paired no issues, I suppose these are meant to work together and perhaps it's not compatible with 3rd party routers?

Think it's more to do with how old the router is as I've got a BT homehub 4 with my superwizzy BB and my catch up box paired 1st time.

I have a SKY WiFi bridge device to connect my SKY box to the interweb (Catch up is ace, especially as BBC 3 is now going to be an interweb only channel). In fact, I run the output of the bridge device into a 'Switcher' and so have an interweb hub for all my devices around the SKY box that would like a drop of the Interweb stuff. I'm so networked up, I have had to order a new Router from SKY as my very old one can't cope (there is an awful lot of stuff wired and connected to it-poor thing blew up it's PSU a few days ago :( ) Anyhoo, it you do get it to work. a switcher only cost about a Tenner and so it's a cheap way to get interweb access by your telly :)

Don't you have to plug it into a computer 1st to program it with your router details and password?

Another option is to put your passcode for the router in as caps.

Some routers can't see a connection request with a password handshake of a1b2c3 (replace with your passcode) and need A1B2C3 instead.

If you have the SKY Bridge device it is preprogramed with all the right stuff (I do have a SKY router though). A prompt appears when you try to connect you SKY+ box to an interweb service and you simply add the router password. The only thing I can't swear for, is whether you need a SKY router to make it all this simple. I have a Sagem version btw.

Tried both caps and a mixture but nothing worked.

Don't you have to press either button 1 or 2 to add new devices to a livebox?

Yeah, button one puts it in pairing mode whilst you enter the code on the sky box. The catch up device doesn't find the router after I've done that - it's either too far away or too old I think.

I use powerline adapters to connect our box to the router as we had them previously and they work a treat.  Also means I have my PS3 hooked up as the WIFI signal is quite weak by the TV.
